Title: finished jewellery 2011
Post by: GaysieMay on January 01, 2011, 06:08:13 PM
I just bought a great book between Christmas and New Year and found the inspiration to make this bracelet - it's for me, and although not perfect, I'm really pleased with it!

(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5005/5311628733_224930b312.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/49485853@N03/5311628733/)

The only components I haven't made are the shell and the bead caps on one of the beads.  I can't wait for the post to pick up again, I've just ordered a ton (slight exaggeration) of silver wire!

I saw a bit about micro macrame in a library book and decided to try a choker. Here's one using 1mm leather thong and using square knots.
(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/23586151/394421439.jpg) The bead is a reworking of a failed goddess. I cleaned out the bead release and remelted the glass, putting a little simple decoration on it. Mustn't waste glass you know. The bead is secured with some other square knots and the ends sealed with PVA glue.

Don't look too closely at the second pair there's a really dodgy loop on one of them.

It's not often I'd say I was pleased someone had broken a bead, but on this occasion I had to! Just finished for the lovely Sandy - not slumped, just set as is (it was a lovely clean break!).

Some amazingly blue beads from Kay turned into a proper set (not something I do very often). I was going to add more bits, but they told me not to! I used some of my new capped headpins on the earrings, and I'm pleased with how they worked.

Also from Kay, this heart bead with feathered enamels is just delicious - and needed so little to finish it off

And then I remembered this little guy from Les - I love playing with continuous wire as a change from fabricated frames, and this was what happened

I got this lovely Baby Bear bead from Pam (Maple Glass Beads) in the Floral Swap - and I've made it into a fibula for my mum.  She is bear mad.....and it's her birthday (well it was last wednesday.....and I've been a bad daughter and not gone to see her yet).  She will love this to bits......and forgive me!!!!

Thank you Pam for such a lovely bead.....and thank you Helen for sending it my way.

It's the first fibula that I have made that I am happy with and is not being taken apart and going in the scrap pot ;D

Cause I think I have it...

Got rather bored making earwires and saw my thick wire sitting there looking lonely so I thought I would have a play and use some orphans in the process.
Only on silver plated but a play is a play and it was much more interesting than bend, loop, deburr.

A week or so I posted a picture of a guinevere knot done in leather cord. I've added green wine bottle beads and made it up into a necklace. The freehand heart at the bottom is also wine bottle.

I thought I would show you my first bracelet that I made yesterday.

Its only silver plated wire that I got for practice, but I really enjoyed learning on this. I even made my own jump rings :o

I feel quite proud that I made everything on this bracelet, wirework, clasp and beads. (apart from the seed beads)

The necklace is made from my own beads to match a bracelet and earrings that have already gone to the same lady.   The crystal bracelets are the third and fourth that the customer has had for herself and as presents. The same lady has just ordered two Swarovski pendants and a couple of handknitted scarves as well.!

I made this copper swirl bracelet as my second attempt at wire jewellery. This one is copper wire and my own beads.

I tried to make the clasp part of the design, and tried to texture the copper, but hadnt got the correct hammer so it looks a bit "bashed"  ;D ;D ;D

I very rarely make anything for myself, but since all the ops on my face and neck I can't comfortably wear all my lovely dangly earrings any more, so I've been living in the same pair of little diamond studs for months now.

Not good enough, I thought, so I now have a pair of proper earrings set with some just delicious fused dichroic cabochons from the lovely and talented JulieHB. And I love 'em!

It was Mum's 89th birthday in Jan and I couldn't decide what to make her, so took my stash of beads with me when I went to stay the night and she chose these.  The clasp isn't fab (one of those magnetic ones) but she has terrible arthritis and had specifically asked for this type of clasp. :)

With all the difficulties of the past few months my mojo went awol. OH bought me loads of semi precious / stone beads for christmas, bless, and madame mojo has revisited me over the last 2-3 weeks, so here are my latest necklaces! (I won't bore you with the matching bracelets and earrings  ;) )

All my own lampies, wirework etc. There is a bit of a coral theme (the big round orange ones) because the lady in the bead shop kinda challenged me to come up with ideas for them as she was stumped! Finally, no lampies, but more coral!

I was making this to sell, but when I saw it finished on the bust I decided I had to keep it  ;D
My lampie focal (from this weeks Gallery), stabilised chrysocolla, peridot and rose quartz chips, garnet rounds, freshwater pearls and seed beads. Sterling findings and one of Diane's gorgeous ribbons.

Well first one that looks half like a commercial one :P ;D As opposed to my patented bung on the beads and knot method ;D ;D I know the photoshop is rubbish (just blurring and brightening yada yada yada) but couldn't be bothered getting out the graphics tablet!! :P

Didn't post this in the gallery because it's my first one :P A massive thanks to a special someone who wishes to remain nameless out of modesty for the greek ceramic spacers and cord- they're fantastic!!! ;D ;D

Post by: DeanWilson on February 24, 2011, 10:16:03 PM
Okay okay I'll stop making topics and just post in the gallery :P

This is my last, I promise ;D

Made a bracelet there...and this time it's in the right place as it is actually finished :P Chuffed to bits as it actually looks like a proper bracelet- it has a catch and all- it stays on your wrist without a tight knot or cord dangling down round you- a Dean Wilson first!! :P ;D ;D

Frenchie mentioned wooden spacers...so I cut up a necklace I got from peacocks I think that was all tiny wooden beads and they look quite cool! :P ;D

Anyway here it is :P firstly without the catch..

I had the most wonderful day with our lovely George (Harper East-Mizgeorge) learning to bezel cabs. Here are the two pieces I made which I am so proud of THANK YOU GEORGE XXXxxxxx
The ring cab is one from the talented Julie HB, the dichroic cab is one of my own.

Antique silver bracelet....the glass colour I mean, not the silver work ;)

I made this last night and am getting better with the wire work I think.

Apologies if you've already seen the pics on Flickr, but here's a selection of my jewellery and buttons that they will be displaying.

Hello...These are my first ever photos on here, please be gentle..... ;D

First is a copper bracelet  - I'm a silver girl really but thought I would give it a go.  The necklace is a chunky little number...(maybe too chunky?) threaded with some greek ceramic beads.

I made another bracelet with my gorgeous new opal rose glass, with a bit of R. mystic biege to decorate. I am loving this colour :)

I made simple beads in different shapes to show off the colour to try out the new glass, and loved the colour so much I ended up using some real pearls and making a bracelet.

It is my first attempt at a threaded wire bracelet.

I have made a large BHB 3cm long and threaded it onto a leather lariat with silver ends. The bead can be removed and threaded onto silk or chain, whatever she likes (she is a Trollbead fan).

The lariat is 1 metre long and can be worn as a long necklace, doubled up as a short one or wound round the wrist and tied as a bracelet. She could add some of her silver charms if she wants to as well.

The photo is a bit dark, sorry, and it does not show up the DH Triton twistie on the bead. I made some earings to match.

I hope she likes it  :)

I made these for a colleage at work, as a present for his wife, now she's not known for her over reaction but apparently said "they'll do" and hasn't taken them off since!!

the worst bit was drilling a hole in the silver at the top for a jump ring, tense moment there!
I think I'm going to have to make some for me to keep, but with brighter coloured beads.

I had the beads all ready in time, but was frantically putting them together very late on the Wednesday night, so I stayed with very simple! (I was out of hammered rings, too, else I'd have attached the focal to one). I'll probably remake it a little... eventually... to add more silver and a clasp rather than just tying it. But I'm wearing it this week too because I really like it  :D

I've included the beads on their own too, because there were less reflections at that angle. The murrini were from Kaz's broken biskwits selection  :)

I'm not often brave enough to post any pictures on here but I recently completed a short study evening class in Foundation Silversmithing and wanted to show you my final pieces. I have signed up for the Intermediate course next year and want to be sure I'm not wasting my time and money! I know there are some seriously talented silversmiths on the forum so all feedback, good or bad, would be much appreciated as I don't have anyone other than hubby as a sounding board and he's understandably biased  ;D ;D

Title: 'Special'
Post by: The Tartan Trout on April 27, 2011, 11:10:42 AM
We all have in jokes with  friends. No idea how this one started, but the phrase 'your special...yes short bus special' is used between Kathy and I. It is not meant to be offensive in anyway to anybody. I asked Di if she could come up with something on a tag that I could make into a keyring/bag charm as a present. Unfortunately I made thee most pretty of frit nuggets and every blinking one was cracked!!! So last minute was use what I had lying around. She was happy :)

Title: Button Chokers
Post by: Lush! on April 29, 2011, 02:07:00 PM
Another use for buttons!

A simple leather choker with a (not so simple!) shank button

(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5265/5666652030_b8b2fbd647.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lushlampwork/5666652030/)
Sea Breeze button choker (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lushlampwork/5666652030/) by LushLampwork (http://www.flickr.com/people/lushlampwork/), on Flickr

I've made a few to match ring toppers.

(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5184/5666686574_c3580a103c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lushlampwork/5666686574/)
Matching ring top and choker (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lushlampwork/5666686574/) by LushLampwork (http://www.flickr.com/people/lushlampwork/), on Flickr

The only trouble with selling chokers though is that they really do need to be the right length and everybody's neck is different so I'm thinking that the buyer can finish their own off by cutting to length and crimping the second end on - I *think* everybody could manage that!  ???

This is the first piece of jewelery that I have made myself using my own fully cooked in my new kiln beads!! I hope you like it, some of the beads are still a bit 'rustic'  (wonky) but I love it and I have had loads of comments at work about it (in a nice way!!!)

Title: Quick 'n Easy Projects.
Post by: Diane on May 10, 2011, 10:43:03 AM
I don't post much jewellery - because I don't make much - but I just decided this morning to make a couple of quick 'n easy bracelets using some silk strings and some buttons - using Julie's lovely little brass press and tute. Here are the results:

With this one I was trying to incorporate a textile element - these little frayed out tufts remind me of the little tassles on Asian costumes!

Title: Button
Post by: Passionatelamper on May 10, 2011, 09:25:35 PM
Helen G Made this button for me for the lampwork day I had here at home in Exeter.
I was so thrilled and I couldn't decide what to do with it.
I finally decided on wrapping it with Copper wire with a Swarovski Bi Cone on the top.
It was the first time I have made a ring by this method I enjoyed it albeit it has some flaws but
will practice till I get it better.
I thought you might like to see Helen's gorgeous bead and what I did with it.
Bye for now :)  :-* xx

Title: Bottle Glass Necklace
Post by: Pat from Canvey on May 31, 2011, 08:56:56 AM
I made the beads some time ago and was wondering how to finish it off. After seeing the section on Button and Braid Knots in the library book Compendium of Celtic Crafts, I decided to include some in the necklace.
(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/12685369/397023329.jpg) The button knots are used as spacers while the toggle clasp has two sliding button knots so that the length of the necklace can be changed to suit. Heres a close up of the central slightly larger bead,
(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/12685369/397023337.jpg) Now to try a braid knot necklace with some Harveys Bristol Cream beads.

Thanks for looking!

I love Di's clasp with this. The beads are slightly bigger than I normally do. It has accidently fallen onto my wrist and can't be removed ;)

now I just need some tips on photographing silver - I do have a light tent but then it all gets sort of washed out and you cant see detail, also I always do a white balance but as you can see, it hasn't helped.. maybe I should use a dark background?

Title: Colourfetti Necklace and Earrings
Post by: Lush! on July 08, 2011, 02:12:15 PM
I showed a set of beads that I was really pleased with, made with murrini by Julie HB, in the Gallery a few days ago.  Well last night I made another set using (all my stash of) Kaz's Fossilised murrini and have just made them up into jewellery for my sister to take on holiday next week.

(She doesn't get to keep them though  8))

The necklace design isn't original, but it was the only way I could think to string the beads without using tigertail - I seem to have developed a deep dislike of tigertail recently!  The beadcaps, headpins and earwires are, of course, by George  ;D

Title: My first cabochon ring
Post by: Pat from Canvey on July 14, 2011, 05:09:10 PM
At Plowden and Thompson on Wednesday we drooled over racks and racks of glass. At the end of the room were odd lots that never got into production, all 100 COE. I bought two pale green rods, each about 133 cm long and made up the kilo with some COE 100 white and green. Julie had kindly given me some nuts to try out on the silver adjustable ring I bought from George on the Tuesday. Here's my first try,

Title: Not jewellery as such
Post by: Blue Kiln Beads on July 30, 2011, 01:58:21 PM
More along the lines of accessories.  I have put together some bag charms and lapel pins just for a change to necklaces and bracelets.  They are a great way to use 'odd' beads.

I have been making buttons for a while using a doming block but I finally caved in and bought Julie's button tool.  I love it!  Here are some buttons I made in the last couple of days.

I hope this comes out OK.  I've just completed this with one of George's clasps.  I'm so pleased with it.  It's for a Wedding Fair at the weekend.  I wonder what reaction it will get?

Title: Made for a stall on Sunday
Post by: CarrieH on August 06, 2011, 02:34:58 PM
Finally got around to making some of my beads into new jewellery ready for a small local event on Sunday:

(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/6014578152_0ba37d73aa.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/51975739@N05/6014578152/)
These were my first use of shards - I think it gives a vintage look especially on the heart.

A few bracelets.

I try and sell some pendants without chains to keep the cost down.

Title: A bit of bronze
Post by: rocky on August 08, 2011, 09:42:01 PM
Been hacking away at my bronze clay. These are made half from normal bronzclay and half from fastfire. The circles were all cut from a beer bottle top and were all the same size before firing, but the normal bzcl shrinks 25% and the fastfire only 10% (my guess is even less) so you get a nice graduated finish.

Oh and I did meself a hoopy pair too.

Title: Raging Sea
Post by: Jessamine on August 10, 2011, 12:30:46 PM
This is a bit of a last hurrah silverwise for a bit, because due to the price of silver I'm going to have to take a break from making silver heavy pieces, instead I've bought lots of copper ready to play with, but before hand I wanted one last silver splurge, so this bracelet came into creation. Gorrrrrgeous beads by the lovely Isabelle Anderson :)

Post by: Pat from Canvey on August 14, 2011, 11:28:00 AM
One of Manda's focal beads with my knotting,
(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/20864307/398090036.jpg) and a close up of Manda's focal
(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/20864307/398090028.jpg) The type of knotting is from the book "Ornamental Knots for Beaded Jewellery" by Suzen Millodot. The knot at the bottom of the bead is a button knot.
Title: Another Phoenix Tail Necklace
Post by: Pat from Canvey on August 15, 2011, 12:54:08 PM
I decided to try this with leather cord so used 1.5mm soft green and used one of my own focal beads.
(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/20864307/398102472.jpg) Here's ac close up of the focal and the smaller beads,(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/20864307/398102471.jpg)
I found it much easier to work with the leather as the knotting seemed to come out more regular. I used silver on the small beads to complement the silver on the focal.
Title: Circle of Life earings
Post by: Pat from Canvey on August 16, 2011, 01:42:43 PM
These are from the book "Celtic Knots for Beaded Jewellery" by Suzan Millodot. They are made with 1.5mm leather cord and use sterling silver crimp necklets from Palmers to finish off the cord. The wires are 1mm silver wire as I prefer this for my earings.

Post by: chipperpottery on August 18, 2011, 11:05:58 AM
I had a wonderful day yesterday with George, she is so patient with me  ::) This is my second day of learning how to enhance my work with silver and I am sure it won't be my last.
I had bought a cab from Lush and wanted to make it into a pendant, but could also be used as a pin. The second thing  I wanted to be able to make was my own stud earrings ,and this with Georges help and tuition is what I have made.
(before you say anything George, I know I need to still do more polishing on them! :D )

Title: I am still making the odd thing...
Post by: nemeton on August 21, 2011, 10:00:57 PM
... beading keeps me sane in between all the boring stuff  ;D

Stop me if you've seen these before  ::)

Won't bore you with rafts of seedy things but thought you might like these...
First - a commission for a friend's wedding anniversary - fabulous focal by Red Hot Sal in a luscious shade of blue that took weeks of searching to match!
The spacers evolved into my own take on 'silver cored' beads...
And I made a beaded bead pendant to go with one of Diane's silk ribbons in another gorgeous but hard-to-match shade of blue
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/smdenimpend.jpg)
and got sidetracked into making an even bigger size of beaded bead, mostly if I will be honest here because I made a mistake and ordered wooden beads in the wrong size  ::)
Am currently working on a commission for four 'Nemesis' necklaces  :o of which this is the third, with a stonking stripey encased lentil by our Tan  ;D
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/redbest.jpg)

That will do to be going on with, but I'll be back with more in due course...
Title: Crystal bracelet
Post by: Pat from Canvey on August 25, 2011, 10:51:31 AM
I felt like making something simple last night while watching TV. I knew I had some waxed cotton and a few crystals from a charity shop buy so made this, (http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/20864307/398223376.jpg)
The knots are square ones as you can see from this close up (http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1426/5604171/20864307/398223375.jpg)

What do you think?
The're not perfect, definately need to improve on my swirlies if i am going to consider selling a few pairs. Would also put a backing behind the quilling so then you don't see the silver base at the bottom, maybe a contrasting colour would look good there :)
Also - making some different patterns, maybe quilled flowers or other swirly-curlies in a mixture of colours would look good.

Apologies if you have seen these on another forum already :-*
I'm off out to the pub in a min, so wanna get my blog and forum posts finito before i leave ;D x

Title: Sometimes it's worth PTT....
Post by: helbels on August 29, 2011, 04:09:13 PM
This focal bead didn't want to be made.  I had a lovely Harlequin necklace kit from Diane (Sowzerere) to use, and really wanted to make something to go on it.

However, everything about it went wrong.  Everything smudged, the colours didn't play nicely together, it cracked on the mandrel (about 3 times), and several times I nearly slung it in the water pot.  However, I'd spent so much time on it by that point that I was loathe to give up, even though I did mentally question whether I was just PTT (polishing the turd.....) by then.

However, overall, it seems to have come out ok, so I'm quite pleased with it!!

Title: Necklace, bracelet and cufflinks: family gifts
Post by: Kalorlo on August 30, 2011, 01:45:34 PM
I went up to visit my parents last week, and had some rather overdue presents for my mum, brother, and brother's wife! (And boy is that weird to write...)

Cufflinks for brother:

(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6199/6092280475_49e35ba152_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/6092280475/)

Bracelet for Kotomi (I asked my brother what colours she liked and was informed orange and green! So I had to think about that for a while  :P It was originally going to have Jens Pind between the links, but in the end they were too long for that to work, so I just did single jumprings).

(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6184/6092820244_6aa91ff974_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/6092820244/)

Mum chose a bead and ribbon from a selection I took with me, and I made it up Pris-alike. I do like how it makes the ribbon much more substantial, because they go a bit bedraggled when you use a single ribbon on its own.

I know summer hasn't left...although I do question if it ever arrived this year, but these do have a much more autumnal feel to them. Yes as always it's frit :)

Title: Experiments with buttons
Post by: nemeton on September 13, 2011, 09:35:48 AM
Been experimenting with buttons this week as a result of reading a tutorial for a button coaster linked by someone on another forum. The coaster was boring and square and involved making lots of little strips and stitching them together. That will drive me mad, I thought. And I have too many coasters. But cuffs, now... you can never have too many cuffs... and there has to be a way to do it with a single thread path...
And before I knew it I was sifting through my button stash and grabbing a spool of cord and a bodkin and this was the result
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/buttoncuffon.jpg)(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/buttoncuffoff.jpg)
Not perfect, but slinky and light and much quicker to make than the beady equivalent  :)
Then it occurred to me that if the buttons were different sizes the rows might be made to curve, and I was off again with my callipers (why is it that even with a drawerful of buttons there only ever seem to be half a dozen in any one particular size?) and after a few false starts and dropped stitches there was this
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/buttcollaroff.jpg)
which is surprisingly comfy and warm to wear and weighs hardly anything at all
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/buttcollaron.jpg)
although there were a few teething problems and I need to redo the clasp and reshape the back because it rucks up and doesn't sit right  :-\
And now I am all excited because I came on here to show you these and Sam was having a button destash - it was meant to be...  ;D ;D ;D
Title: Necklace with one of Kay's focals
Post by: nemeton on September 15, 2011, 05:53:58 PM
Finished this a while ago but have never been able to get a half-decent photo  ::)
Until today!  ;D (I loves my new camera, I does - and I love my DS even more for giving me lessons on how to use it!)
This is definitely a keeper - I love it to bits for a start, and also it has an extra-crunchy spiral (to contrast the texture with the sleekness of the glass) which means lots of increases, which mean it took ages and ages and AGES to stitch  :o and I am never likely to embark on another one!
The colours in this focal are just wonderful and required me to go through my entire bead stash to find the right match. And of course I couldn't resist adding a tassel and a li'l bit of labradorite  ;D
The clasp didn't turn out quite right but it's a nice secure one none the less!
And I am deeply embarrassed that this is one of the beads Kay swapped me for her wedding necklace and I have only just got round to using it... and I have a stack of others still in the box and being stroked occasionally  :-[
Title: Summer Beach Earrings
Post by: Ant on September 15, 2011, 10:13:27 PM
I made these beads whilst experimenting for the Summer Bracelet Swap but discounted them as being a bit to 'busy' to put seven of them on one bracelet!  I still liked them though, so made them into earrings and gave them to a friend as a visiting present when we went to stay with her for the weekend.

Post by: nemeton on September 22, 2011, 04:55:19 PM
Only I am ashamed to say that I don't know whose these beads are  :-[ - I never thought my lampie stash would get so out of hand!

Been playing with combining seedies and lampies in one earring - these have leaves

and these have starfish

Title: Chain cufflinks

I bought some of George's chain cufflinks. Rather than beads I made a couple of discs...simple, yet I think quite effective :)

Title: Wol
Post by: poledra1958 on September 28, 2011, 12:08:19 PM
Ok not the Wol from winnie the pooh, but then I call all owls wol.

First week back at my silver smithing classes last week and I started this project from a recent magazine (sorry of the top of my head I can not remember if it was Making Jewellery or Beads and Beyond).  He is apaproximately 3cm high but as soon as I saw the project I knew I had to try him.  Now I am trying to work out if I can do a Cat in a similar vein to match.

I finished him last night. The rivetting on one of his eyes is a bit off but I have not done that before.

Title: Ilona's beads
Post by: CarrieH on September 28, 2011, 06:00:34 PM
I bought these beautiful beads from Ilona a couple of months back and today they spoke to me and asked to be made into this:

Think it will have pride of place at the coming craft fayres.

I also made up the beads that I won in the charity auction at Di East's - they were made by Kate, Julie and Kaz at a silver glass day they had.  This one is a keeper   ;):

I went to the Carla di Francesco course at Mangobeads a few weeks ago. One of the bead designs we learnt was the flame bead. Unfortunately mine got a kiln kiss, so when I came home I took the hammer to it, and "slumped" the halves into cabs. The cab is set on a sawn out piece of silver - I had intended it to look really cool and contemporary, but realised as I finished it looks like a shield...  ::) Never mind, might just have to read a bit on jewellery design before attempting any more  ;D ;D

Post by: Passionatelamper on October 16, 2011, 12:52:32 PM
Hi Guys do you remember a week or so back when I put some photos on here very dotty and colourful? well I did say I would post them when I had done the jewellery. So here they are I did not do a large bracelet as I thought it would be too heavy for the wrist so I made a Necklace with a Sterling Silver Clasp and loaded them on had lots left so made a silver chain out of jumprings and added one of Di's gorgeous toggles and then put on a disc with some Swarovski and Silver and a large hole bead. The ear rings I made of bicones and swarovski too. I am pleased with these and definitely a keeper. I have been getting involved in making spangles for lace makers bobbins and the history of them is amazing. This has led me to making this necklace. The beads for spangles are very pretty and were crying out to be made into jewellery as well as spangles.

Pot Pourri (http://www.flickr.com/photos/gemwaithnia/6313108373/) by gemwaithnia (http://www.flickr.com/people/gemwaithnia/), on Flickr

This necklace (for me) gathers together a selection of lampwork, with clusters of silver wrapped gemstones, Hill Tribe and sterling silver.
I'm pretty good at keeping track of the lampwork that I buy, but when I get sent "extras" by some of you lovely people, then occasionally I do forget who made what.
This necklace contains two beads from Julie Fountain, two from Julie H-B, one each from Kate Sullivan and Pam Purslow, and three that I just can't put my finger on.
I've tagged the ones I know in notes on Flickr, so just click on the images to see the info.
All suggestions gratefully received!
Thanks for looking!
Nia xx

Title: Another bracelet and some pendants
Post by: nemeton on November 07, 2011, 10:55:13 AM
Another reversible cuff - salvaged from disaster when a bead broke just as I was trimming the last loose end  ::) Such a pity, I'll have to keep it now!
Three beaded bead pendants (lousy pic because it was getting dark - sorry - but hooray for Di's ribbons!  ;D)
And a ten-minute pendant with one of Jane's gorgeous focals and more of that sexy black ribbon (sneaky peeky at a potential 'quick make' project for next month's FHFteam blog post  ;))

That pendant is going to have to come off its ribbon though. It's sitting in the box yelling 'LABRADORITE!' at me...  :)

...I think it must be something in the air re interchangeable things this week  ;D I made myself a new long necklace that I can add bhb's too (similar in style to the troll ones) i put a clasp on the bottom so I can add different semi precious or lampwork drops and then the bhb's simply go over the chain and clasp and rest on the ring of the drop.

Title: Children in Need - Spots necklace
Post by: poledra1958 on November 16, 2011, 12:04:03 PM
As I do not actually own any clothes with spots on.  For our wear your spots day at work I made myself a silver spots necklace.

Title: Floral pendants!

Here are a couple of pendants I made for a commission.  I struggled with handing over the teal one particularly, I love it - when matched with one of Diane's beautiful silk strings it just sang to me!  I will have to make myself another!

Post by: ARBeads on November 18, 2011, 12:10:33 AM
I made these for my sisters 40th birthday, there was a ring as well but I seem to have lost the photie. Forgotten how much fun chainmaille can be.

I'm still really enjoying these Sara Sally inspired brooches I've been adding copper spirals to a lot of them but this powder blue just wanted to be left alone - although if I find the perfect feather I might just add that

Title: Beads of all sorts
Post by: Rase on November 28, 2011, 07:18:15 AM
I have managed to get Husband to photo some things, I love making paper beads as the patterns and colours are endless, I also have to sit with my mom a fair bit during the day so making something that I can sit with is handy.  I also like beading with size 15 delicas.

Title: My OH has been visiting George!!
Post by: Jennie Lamb on December 05, 2011, 09:01:25 PM
My husband Ian decided that he would like to have a go at playing with silver after he saw the ring I had made at Mango Beads on the Cab To Fab with George and Julie HB....perfect Christmas Present I thought!  He had some work cancelled this month and as he is busy in the new year so Christmas came early in this house! He took some of my cabs and headed up to see George for a couple of days and came back buzzing and gave me this and his mum got a lovely pendant too!!  YAY!!!

Made me want to experiment with ring making to!! So not to be left out I dug out the wire and did a wrap which I was quite pleased with......

Title: Cascade earrings (based on Lynn's tutorial)
Post by: Kalorlo on December 13, 2011, 12:31:21 PM
Lynn did a tutorial on tassels (http://fhfteam.blogspot.com/2011/10/lynns-lampies-november.html) on the FHFteam blog last month. I thought I'd try making a pair of earrings in the same style.

(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7013/6502301869_d906625d9d.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/6502301869/) (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7153/6502302327_588e0965da.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/6502302327/) (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7146/6502302673_d8a546d245.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/6502302673/)

The first one took a loooong time! The second was faster now that I knew what I was doing. They were quite fun to make - not sure I'd be making many, but I can see myself doing them on occasion. I have pinged tiny beads all over the livingroom, though...

What are your thoughts on selling prototypes? I'd been making these with the intent to sell them, because I don't wear earrings often and it would be a shame if they just sat in a box somewhere. On the other hand, the central tassel on the left one is longer than the central tassel on the right, and I had to make up how I was closing the top loop when I got there, so it's got a crimp either side and a space at the top where you can see both strands of beading wire. (I've got wire guardians, but they won't fit two). I since realised it would make much more sense to think of it more as a figure of 8, with a bottom loop that's crimped in the centre (below the main bead?), then a top loop that does the same, rather than ending up with two wire ends at the top. That'd let me use a guardian or bead the entire loop without any gap.

If I was selling, I think I'd get some coppery/bronze-coloured niobium or titanium earwires instead of the sterling, to match the colours better.

Sooo, this carries on from the standards discussion! What do you think? I'm starting to (reluctantly!) feel that the right thing to do would be not sell these, but make another pair where I fix the niggly things. I am really pleased with them, I'm just not sure how much that counts!  ::)

Had to make something for my Aunt's 60th, a friend had given me a thin old gold ring, some clip on earings and other bits.  Aunt has just bought a Roman style dress to wear on a cruise in January, so made this, simple bead with ring and converted the earings to peirced.

The glass is sandstone, given to me by the lovely Sue, looks really old, much nicer in person.  Forgive crappy paper towel background. Janet

Title: Christmas Present for my Sister ... ssssshhhhh!
Post by: Lush! on December 24, 2011, 11:18:31 AM
I'm so excited about this gift but I can't show the pic off on Flickr or Facebook yet in case she sees it!

My sis asked for earrings for Christmas, but I got a bit carried away

Its an 8 compartment box with 16 (!!) pairs of earring dangly bits, 2 pairs of George's small V earwires (cos my sis loses everything so I thought I'd better give her at least 2 pairs) and a pair of hoops.

Here's a closer look at some of the earrings I'm really chuffed with - and thanks to Trudi for the dichro.

(the pair on the right were heavily "inspired" by a set I saw on Etsy  8))

And here's all of them!  They're all finished off with a little jump ring so they easily slide on and off the earwires, apart from the discs which are intended to go on the hoops.

All a bit last minute, but done :)

My sister only gets two pairs of earrings (she may desert me and go to be Julie's sister instead!). Beautiful beads from Claire Morris and Izzy Anderson.

She's having a rockpool pendant too - commissioned by my mother to give to her :)
