Title: finished jewellery 2012
Post by: Trudi on March 23, 2010, 12:16:32 PM
Well I bought my bracelt from George a little while ago, and I've been collecting and making beads since - I finally now got the "look" as I want it and feel comfortable with ........

(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2690/4456926488_2775a57fd8.jpg) (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2690/4456926488_2775a57fd8.jpg)

All the lampies are mine (apart from the blue and ivory - which I got in the swap last year - thanks Ingrid!).

So I've shown you mine ........... lets see yours!

Get you - so talented in lots of crafts!! It must be so satifying to be able to put so much of it together yourself!
Can't wait to see the finished result!

I so love all these BHB they are beautiful. I love the fact that you've either made them yourself or swapped them with others and that you can change the beadies depending on what you are wearing.

I've tried loads and loads to make a decent one and failed miserably - they either come out massive (encasing gone wrong) or totally uneven or wonky.  I'd put it down to the big mandrel, but have now bought some of Manda's new skinny handled mandrels and although a bit better, they're still pants so it must just be me  :'( PPP eh? I think I need to watch someone do it (fingers crossed for a flame off demo?).  I will also have a go making a disk too - thanks for that one.

They are beautiful though!

Have you tried the 4mm ones - they're easier than 5mm ones (and although not ideal for coring - a good place to start!)
Title: Re: Show us your Big Hole Bead Bracelets
Post by: Trudi on March 25, 2010, 09:24:04 AM
When I say not ideal for coring - they can be cored, but it would make them tight to fit on many bracelets!

Here's the bracelet chain I soldered up, with two different "flavours" of beads - please note not all of these beads are made by myself, there are several swap beads in there, and I think one or two of manda's as well  :) I do apologise for the poor photo quality, it was a quick job! but you get the picture, it's nice to be able to change the beads according to the outfit  :)

Hi Trudi,
I haven't tried 4mm ones, but then I guess I do want them to go on a standard chain so I dunno.  I think I just need to keep at it. Thanks though!

I don't wear mine any more as I just shoved all my BHB's on in a kind of colour order and it looks a bit of a mess. I must drag it out and arrange it properly. Thanks for the shove ladies  ;D

I love George's bracelets, I have been oggling from afar and intend to invest in one when I've saved up enough bead sales (but a new torch has to come first).

Here are mine. The first is my 'everyday' one, the second the revamp I had to do last weekend when I realised most of my jewellery is pink or blue and my nails were orange :o ;D

I'm loving these bracelets, and the beautiful beads!  :-*

My bracelet came from Tillerman beads, the beads I made after four months torching, not thought to make any since then. Think I could make nicer ones now  ;D.
(http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4037/4479287213_d1a24ed6d0_m.jpg) (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4052/4479287639_40d5779988_m.jpg)

That's it I'm having a go!  ;D How easy is it to put silver cores on, do you need special tools or do they just squeeze together each side of the bead?
:-[ Sorry about the questions!

Ohh loving this thread - lots of beautiful beads n bracelets on display here!

There are two options for the "cores" you can core them with silver tubing but you'll need a special tool for that. Or you can get some nice silver rivets that you can glue in (I use 2 part epoxy). Palmers sell a range of them in different sizes!

My bracelet has had a make over - it's gone green!

I made this one myself - one that I could just add a few beads too and is snug enough to fit my wrist without slipping around!

I also won George's new style bracelet - it's really clever as it shows toggle that sits really well and makes it look full, but there is a tiny catch behind it to allow you to slip the beads on and off! And see the official Flame Off colour way (well foe me anyway!)

(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2700/4536779349_6f7af4c505.jpg) (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2700/4536779349_6f7af4c505.jpg)

I wasn't going to buy anything at the Charity Auction, but I got seriously excited by the male model. Next year Colette will need to keep me under better control!!

And for my birthday I got another one from Palmers - it's one that's shorted so I can have it with just a few beads (bit like my leather one) but it's silver. I feel I have another serious addiction to go along with the glass, beads, shoes and scarves ........ but they look so pretty and always fit! Picture to follow!

I was the lucky winner of this lovely Sterling silver Heart brooch, made by Kathel from Denmark, in Kaz Draw at Christmas.
I teamed it up with one of Julies hearts and called it Heart to Heart.
Thank you Kathel and Julie x

I admit it - after weeks of making crystal jewellery in bright colours, post-Christmas reaction has set in and I've gone all romantic and flowery

I impulse bought these gorgeous beadies from Hazel and just love their delicacy and softness  :)
I'll be writing a mini-tut for the beaded bead spacers on the FHFteam blog this weekend - if I get my act together in time  ::)

Post by: nemeton on January 08, 2012, 04:14:14 PM
I've been struck down by a hideous snotty cold this weekend, which has totally filled my head with cottonwool through which my remaining brain cell seems unable to operate.
But I did have a play with some languishing lovelies from my stash yesterday and made this. I wanted something long with a nice big pendant and this little suncatcher was perfect  :) (well I think so anyway)
Ribbon by Sowzere and copper spiral and rings by Dilunah. The black beads are lava stone and the small ones either side of the lampies are garnets.

I gave in... In another thread I had explained that I really wanted to string these on fine chain because I was worried about crimps etc. Well, I couldn't wait any longer for the special chain ends and strung these beads on thick Beadalon and double crimped on either side. It's feels very strong and heavy and I love it!

Tricky to photograph as in the light tent it seems a bit more brown but in natural light it is far more grey. I prefer the grey hence the grey beads/pearls with it.

My latest bracelet.

The theme for our work at college this term was

1) to make something out of links but not to use jump rings to join it
or
2) to make something connected with love (as valentine was in the middle of term) but not to use hearts.

It is a take on the victorian dearest ring.

OK I have only used cz's but the stones are representing and the links are celtic knots.

A not very good photo of the bracelets I have made up recently (full of cold and haven't the energy for lovely piccies!).  Stuggle with sizes (don't we all), think I might get some chain and make them a bit smaller so that they can be longer with the chain (if you see what I mean).  Mind you one friend picked one up the other day and loved it but it was far too small for her and I thought I had big wrists!  The 'shamballa' style or 'macrame' bracelet is mine, I wanted to have a go and need to sort out tidyer ends but rather fond of it, have already had a request for one from a friend!

Title: Another macrame bracelet - and some more!
Post by: Lotti on February 23, 2012, 11:25:57 AM
Quite pleased with this one, but used hemp which is quite tough!  The beadies were some that I made for a commission that I wasn't very pleased with and were destined for the pot, (mid red, encased in clear), but etched they are quite nice and you can't see the murkiness of the red (which was why they were pot bound)!  Still needs some PPP, but having fun. :)

I decided to try and make a few necklaces with some of my evermounting stash of orphans!
Here's what I came up with...

Hi

I haven't managed to put anything up for a while as I haven't been well - but all better now and here are a couple of bracelets I have made with some beads I made recently.  Both for a craft fair I'm attending on Saturday as I'm desperately trying to get some more stock together - its crept up on me a bit!

Title: A couple of lovely commissions
Post by: mizgeorge on March 03, 2012, 01:06:55 PM
I've been lucky enough to have a couple of really nice commissions to work on and I thought I'd share a bit!

This one is an initial pendant for a March birthday - I had a lovely 1/2 carat aquamarine in my stash which was perfect for it. I'm stupidly pleased with it!

Hello all

I made this yesterday and today for my stepsister's birthday next week.  I hope she likes it.  I actually like it  so much that I  made myself the beads for a similar one today - so I've had quite a bit of practice at stripey beads this weekend!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Title: Finished commission for a friend.
Post by: Lotti on March 14, 2012, 01:46:24 PM
An old work colleage (actually I think I was her boss for a bit?), saw these beads on Etsy and asked me to make up a bracelet for her, originally she wanted it on elastic, but it just didn't seem to work very well (I know it does) so I made this up and she is very pleased with it.   (She nows lives in Cyprus and has also ordered; two heart pendants, one on suede and one just as a pendant; one wheel bead, on suede; and one large lentil pendant, also on suede!).  I have just finished the commission and shall be off to Mr PO tomorrow (complete with customs forms etc etc).  I am not posting piccies of the other pieces as they have been posted before in various places, but I am rather pleased with this. :)

Title: Acorns ;-)
Post by: flowerjasper on March 20, 2012, 05:38:04 PM
I have been making acorns, I wasnt sure what  to do with them, I was worried that if I made them up as dangles on a bracelet they would get damaged, so  I made a simple necklace with leather cord,
easy to put over my head, no clasp. I am pleased ;-)

Title: Getting into the Celtic thing.
Post by: Pandanimal on March 24, 2012, 04:48:36 PM

I have been very inspired by Celtic and Saxon beads and jewellery of late and decided to try to make a glass torque shaped bead, getting in a bit of practice for Julie Anne Denton's "Pagan Lady" course next week.
It didn't work out quite how I imagined it, I will need to work a lot more on shaping the glass, but I love how it turned out and made it into this.
I made the clasp and bar from bronze wire and used waxed linen cord as I kinda thought it was a bit more "Old Timesy"

I was lucky enough to start the gallery this week, and showed a couple of sets of beads which I planned to make up into bracelets.  I have made all but one set up so far.  I have also used a set of beads that I made months ago and have strung, undone and restrung several times - I think I'm happy with them now!

Just modified to add that toggle clasps are from George and Faith

Title: Lesley Mac, Emma, Sally and Becky, please stand up and take a bow!
Post by: nemeton on April 23, 2012, 11:40:11 AM
I've been very bad and very absent from this forum recently for various boring reasons. But I had to come back to say a huge thank you to the lovely ladies who made the beads that were largely responsible for my win in this year's GBUK competition: a huge 'sea urchin' focal by Lesley Mac, a set of EJR 'Nemos' that made me think of little animals with segments and lots of eyes, some Red Hot Sal Terra beads that I just love to bits, and a glass ring that Becky sent me as a generous donation to my 'fugly' necklace project three years ago and that was perfect for the clasp.

Stand up and take a bow, you are all stars!

See, I knew there was a reason I'd hoarded all these beads for years...  ;D
Title: large lentil with new 'stuffed' dupioni silk cord.
Post by: Diane on May 07, 2012, 09:36:38 AM
I haven't been doing very much in the way of bead making recently but after a conversation with a certain lady  ;) :D here I happened to buy a tutorial by Cora Hellings - here's a link:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/98832322/tutorial-colorful-with-silk-and-glass.
It's a fabulous tutorial - 78 pages of lovely pictures and great instructions.  Anyway - long story short I contacted Cora, told her I wanted to make some of the cords and asked her permission ( which she was very happy to give ) to put  a link to her  tutorial in my website where I will have some of the cords for sale - hopefully this week as my website is playing up at the moment ::).
I didn't have any flowers made up just a few leaves and a huge (37mm) lentil and made this:
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7078/7144175019_4f1e03fc29.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sowzere/7144175019/)
stuffed core necklace experiment (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sowzere/7144175019/) by SowZerE (http://www.flickr.com/people/sowzere/), on Flickr

The cord is very substantial (8mm diameter) and following Cora's  instructions the back is so neat.

Modified - sorry I mis-spelled Cora's surname :-[

I was commissioned to set an amazing cab by Moogin Mindy, but I didn't realise until it actually arrived just how big 50mm is!!

Finished piece is just over 60mm diameter, but I have to admit, I think it looks amazing.

I had such a lovely day with George, shooting the breeze, being fed the most delicious ham and cheese croissant and oh yes, and making things from metal.
It truly is like alchemy and I can't thank you enough George for sharing your knowledge and ideas with me.
The photos don't do this any justice, but I made jewellery people can actually wear and I am, plus I am very proud! Even hubby made a noise which wasn't a grunt and asked what I would need to get started! Happily I was armed with information about biscuit tins and cheap options ;D

Now I am writing notes to make sure I don't forget ::)
Thanks George and can't remember who to credit with the cab, but it's a fab cab also!

Miles of smiles..... ;D ;D
Title: Bracelet for my Mum's memorial day auction in aid of Macmillan/Breast Cancer
Post by: helbels on May 22, 2012, 10:03:46 AM
As many of you know, my mum passed away of breast cancer about 18 months ago.  She & my stepdad were golfing mad, and very active members of their local golf club, who each year since then, on her birthday,  have held a "Pink Day" in aid of Macmillan and Breast Cancer Care.  Everyone dresses up in pink, plays lots of golf and donates "pink" things for an auction.  Last year they raised about £4000, and this year they are already half way to that thanks to some mad bloke at the club who is playing 130 holes of golf in a single day next Saturday (that's about 40 miles of walking!! :o)

Anyway, I decided to make a pink bracelet as a contribution to the auction, and here it is below.  It's a bit of a FHF collaboration as I commissioned Di Sandland to make the lovely clasp (didn't she do a great job! ;D) and the central bead caps are MizGeorge's.  I hope someone puts a good bid in on it:

Title: A New Necklace from me!
Post by: Jennie Lamb on June 06, 2012, 12:34:05 PM
Having sold the last one of these designs last week I was rather missing it smiling at me from my cabinet each time I went into the studio and it left abit of a gap now it has gone to its new home. So whilst watching the Jubilee stuff over the last few days I have made another and here it is.  I must sort out my photography area as it was too big (apart from the toggle) to fit and get a good shot hence the shots of yours truly ( but at least I am smiling Sarah Brown!) and it doesn't really do it justice it does make somewhat of a statement!

Post by: GaysieMay on June 06, 2012, 10:54:28 PM
I've been a bit low on the old mojo front lately - so decided to return to making a bit of jewellery up.  Apart from the beige braclelet which I did for the challenge (iris orange - frit), the rest are the result of using up all the odd and unlabled glass in my stash.  I'm not allowing myself to use anything other than a complimentary colour until they have all gone!  I will have a tidy glass stash if it kills me!  ;D

Title: Shamballa style bracelets.
Post by: poledra1958 on June 07, 2012, 02:50:53 PM
I am starting to get stuff sorted for the Dogs Trust open day at Newbury where I will be having my annual stall.

So I made a few Shamballa style bracelets.

The one with 9 beads are my own beads made from multi dark the rest are made from semi-precious beads (have some more sets of my own beads to make some more as well)

Another couple again one with my beads and one with semi-precious beads

Post by: misspixie on June 12, 2012, 07:06:26 PM
I tried to drill through a plate at the weekend, with a vague idea of making a cake stand as a gift for someone... That didn't go so well, but I made this instead with one of the broken bits. I've got a stack more of bits that are a useful size - I just can't decide whether to make more of these, or find something else to do with them. This one is a brooch, and measures about 6cm wide.

Title: My Anniversary Beady Necklace
Post by: Barnacle Bay on June 20, 2012, 02:51:59 PM
Hi Folks,

I celebrated another wedding anniversary yesterday (19/6/12) and after buying a new dress I decided to make some beads to go with it and turned them into a necklace  :)

After arriving at the restaurant,  a lady approached me and said, "ooh I have the same dress (luckily she wasn't wearing it), but my word I do love your necklace".  I replied its a 'one off', but I jokingly said "you can have it if the price is right as I had made the beads especially for the occassion".  She offered me £XX.XX - and I accepted, though I said she would have to wait until I left the restaurant - thinking she was one of those timewasters as I saw no cash at that point.

We Left, and oh my word she was there and gave me the money, but she then asked me about me about teaching her - oh Cr*p, I thought I've only being doing this for a short while I couldn't possibly teach her - so I have have taken her phone number but I am quite EEEEked out about someone wanting me to show them how to do it.   Anyway here is a picture:

Thats all for now,

Title: Sliding Knot Bracelet
Post by: Lush! on June 23, 2012, 04:49:30 PM
I've been making loads n loads of jewellery lately but I had a nice diversion yesterday when I rediscovered a tutorial I'd bookmarked ages ago.

Its a really simple way to do a sliding knot, using an extra "working cord", and I found its even easier if you use a contrasting colour for the working cord.

My daughter went off this morning wearing the first one I made so I can't show you that, but this one uses a scrap of a Lush Loop and some Hoops too  ;D ;D

Title: Some simple elasticated bracelets.
Post by: Josephine on June 26, 2012, 05:28:11 PM
I've been trying to come up with some more economical jewellery designs, less silver and expensive clasps, I'm sure you know the problem. I've come up with these elasticated bracelets for a start. Lampwork nuggets made from some Bullseye transparents ( I think I'm in love with this glass) and some Greek patinated spacers.
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8016/7448631596_cef5db41fe.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29161864@N08/7448631596/)

I've done some other colours and I am going to do some multicolour ones too.

Post by: nemeton on June 29, 2012, 11:51:56 AM
Hello again all, it's been ages since I showed anything on here, I have been beading though, honest I have  ;D

I made some earrings with some beautiful beads from Turnedlight with seed beaded leaves and a couple of vintage crystal drops that were lurking in my stash
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/fbspringear.jpg)

and a bracelet with a set of Tan's 'stormbreakers' with swaros, tiny garnets and labradorite
(http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s217/retrobeader/fbstormbrbr.jpg)

and had a vague commission for 'green bracelets and earrings' and when I pointed my customer in the direction of Etsy she picked three sets, of which I've made up the first two  ;D ;D

These are by Sally (Soul Silver) - they are velvety and fabulous and yes, they are THAT vibrant, I had to get DS to help me fix my camera settings so the poor thing could cope with all that concentrated colour!

And these are from LampworkbeadsbyJo, wish I could remember what the green mineral is though because it's an exact match to the colour, pattern and slight milky-translucent feel of the shards...

This isn't lampwork, this is me clearing out the odds and ends from the bottoms of my black and white bead boxes and having a play with some lovely fat black lava hearts I impulse bought at a bead fair. Those are Dilunah earwires btw  :)

And this is me having fun with one of Tan's lentils and turning it into a Tanemone. It looks as though it's puckering up in the middle for a kiss...  :-*

Title: finished jewellery Q3 2012
Post by: dangerousbead on July 08, 2012, 07:26:47 PM
I acquired this lovely blue bottle from Freecycle. A lovely lady who had previously Freecycled us a bed and a rug. A friendship has since been established and we have been stargazing together, looking at the moon with a bunch of geeks in a local park and generally just get along nicely. She advertised the blue bottle and I replied without even noticing it was her advert. The bottle was from her wedding anniversary but she felt it was too good to throw away and too big to keep even though it had some meaning for her, so I said I'd make it into a lovely set of beads for her. It's a tough old glass and took forever, anyway here's the result. I hope she likes it.

Quite unusual for me - muted shades. Used some of my own beads and a few pearls I had left from another project.

Title: Wirework heart
Post by: Pat from Canvey on July 18, 2012, 09:24:07 AM
The latest edition of Making Jewellery, Issue 43 has a tutorial on page 10 that I thought I might attempt. The heart is an oddment of stained glass and is hand formed. I usually like shorter and fatter hearts but I thought what the heck and gave it a go.
I already had the Kumihimo made up and the colour was the best match I could find. The weaving is not as neat as I would like but we've all got to start somewhere. I've made some small adaptations to this project by Sue Mason-Burns. Hopefully, if I give it another go, the weaving will be neater.

I've been busy taking pictures in between watching sports and nursing a couple of broken toes!

A couple of new versions of the dominica bracelet for people who don't want just silver:

Then some sterling pieces back from assay (I need to get round to taking a lot more pictures...)

(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7253/7725939570_72b9669793.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mizgeorge/7725939570/)

And finally a bit of an aberration. I never work in aluminium, which always feels too lightweight and flimsy, and I avoid square wire like poison, but this one is both! I made one for a commission, and while I was at it, I made another one for fun! It is very light, but the colours are quite pretty :)

Title: A little hexperiment and my new favourite bracelet :)
Post by: mizgeorge on September 28, 2012, 03:52:08 PM
I had no soldering space for a little while this week (thank you mr boilerman), so thought I'd try out an idea I've been toying with for a while for a cold connected cabochon setting. Cab by Julie HB (who'll probably tell me off for using it after I liberated it from her fugly pot!). I think this has possibilities, so I'm playing with more of them now ;)

It's been so long since I've made any jewellery. My beads have been "tidied up" so of course I can't find anything. Recently, faced with a friend's birthday, I decided the time had come to dust off my pliers and make something. And here we are. They are a simple pair but after a year I'm lucky to have found my pliers at all. I've also forgotten how to post photos so if this goes pear shaped, apologies.  ;D The fabulous beads are by Sally Carver.

Post by: GaysieMay on November 01, 2012, 09:06:22 AM
I've made a couple of sets of beads using the Val Cox frit I got from Shirley this last weekend - also been playing with a new roller - thought I'd make up the beads into a necklace:

Title: Heavenly Hanging Hearts
Post by: Lush! on November 01, 2012, 09:36:56 PM
Well these aren't exactly jewellery, but they are lampwork.

Have you come across the Israeli resin artist Orna Lalo?  A friend of mine is a huge fan and has lots of her pieces around her house.  I've been wanting to do something non-jewellery so came up with these.

I've just dropped these off at Zest Gallery for their Christmas sale - ear wires & bead caps by George of course.

Title: Finally got my finger out and did some silver smithing :)
Post by: Helen G on November 07, 2012, 07:10:07 PM
Apologies to anyone that has seen these already but I was rather chuffed to finally have dusted off my silver smithing tools and set some of my cabs.

I have a load of copper wire hanging about the house, so I decided to make a bangle with it ... I have never made wire jewellery before, always lampwork .... I think I might make more of these ... I NEED some better quality tools though !
GORGEOUS clasp by our equally gorgeous George :) x

*not finished it yet though ...

Title: I am still beading... just... It's been a while!
Post by: nemeton on November 29, 2012, 04:10:39 PM
My life sucks like a great big sucky thing at the moment and my online time has been seriously compromised - ditto my beading time - I have given up even trying to keep my Etsy shop open  >:(

However... I am still fitting in a bit of beading here and there and last week I fished out a set of pretty pink tabs by Judith Johnston that I impulse bought an embarrassingly long time ago  :-[ So long ago that I'd forgotten whose beads they actually were and had to go and look them up in my records  ::) I tested out various ideas for beaded spacers, threw out the ones that looked like squished fruit pastilles and after much cursing found a formula that worked and that I really liked. I'm not usually a pink person but the colours in these beads are just delicious  :)

and a closeup of the beaded bead that didn't look like a squished thing on the pavement

I will try not to leave it so long before coming back again, I've been lurking a bit and I've missed you all!  :-*
Title: from a non jewellery maker

Thought you may like to see this set. It was for an exhibition spot in a local craft fair. Quite an undertaking for me to make so many beads the same, I really struggle with sets but was pleased with the overall effect here considering the beads are relatively simple to make.

Took a bit of ingenuity to make the protector, so I thought I'd dress it up a bit in the process! Nine inches from top of swirl to bottom of dangles, so just right for a coat lapel (I hope!)

Lovely focal from Lush Julie. There's another one just waiting to be finished tomorrow
Title: Re: Show us your Big Hole Bead Bracelets
Post by: Sywenn on December 20, 2012, 08:25:49 PM
Hi everyone!

I haven't been around on the forum for most of this year as I have barely managed any torch time and so have just poked my head in a few times.

However, as we do secret santa at work, I have to give a gift to a girl who is very much into jewellery, mainly Pandora and Links of London style things, but unlike some people I know, I don't think she is completely a label snob - yet anyway! I decided to make her a big hole bead bracelet and used this thread as inspiration as I don't wear that style of bracelet because I think it looks weird on my wrists :)

So thank you to everyone who posted in this thread, even if it has been gathering dust for a while - you have helped me get my thoughts together on how they should look and be laid out. I have a picture of this finished product below and she will be opening it tomorrow, so I really hope she likes it. Too late now if she doesn't - the glue has set!

Merry pre-Christmas everyone with tinkly bells and all that.
