Title: Silver Extender Chain?
Post by: Lyn G on April 05, 2009, 02:17:12 PM
I am looking for sterling silver extender chain to buy a long length of and am not really sure what type to get.  I know I can buy extender chains ready made, but I want to make my own.

I find it quite difficult to tell from a photo what the size and thickness of the links are, and am confused by all the different types of chain available.

If you make your own, what sort of chain do you use and where do you get it from?  Do you think it is more economical to make your own?

Thanks.

When I make my own I tend to use 0.8mm silver wire, and 3.25 inner diameter rings. However, the size of the rings will really depend on the clasp being used, and the weight of the piece. Then I put a tiny charm on the end to give it some weight.

Thanks Heather....but I mean I'd like to buy the chain.....rather than actually make it with rings.  Just not sure which chain to get.

For extender chains I would look for a curb in the 3x5 size range Lyn.

Thanks George,

Does anyone have a link to any chains they have used, please?
