Title: Points on fibula
Post by: Josephine on January 22, 2009, 09:45:55 AM
Thought I would have a go at making some fibula, been meaning to for ages, but I have come across confilicting advice. I read in one place that you shouldn't make the pin sharp as it will tear fabric rather than seperating the fibres. I read somewhere else that you should make it sharp. What do any of you fibula makers do, and what is the best way to do it, just jewellers files? Any advice gratefully received.

I make mine very sharp, and then gently round off the tip to avoid tearing.

You can use metal files, but it takes a while - start off with an emery board and work down to polishing grade. I hammer flat and use snips to get the initial point, which speeds up the process quite a lot!

Thanks George. I will have to get some emery boards. I thought there must be something I was missing, my practice attempts at points weren't brilliant!
