I know there's another thread about Pandora, but I didn't want to hijack.
The first time I used Pandora, I made this bead - I was dead chuffed.

Well, its sold, and I want to make another .. and another .. and ..
But I CAN'T >:( >:(

The spacers are coming out okay, the really small ones are lovely, but the lentils are poopy pandora pants :(
I've tried them in different parts of the kiln, for different lengths of time - this is just a small selection of my rubbish results. This stuff is too expensive to keep messing us about like this!
I'll happily take them off your hands to save your embarrassment ;)
They really are nice as they are, but I know what you mean, you aren't paying all that money for cack coloured glass :-\
Blimey Tan, if my cack was that colour, I'd be seriously worried! :P
Julie, I think they're a lovely colour, actually... but I can see why you don't feel they measure up to the original one, which was several lovely colours all at once!
Could you re-anneal them? Does Pandora go in a kind of cycle, so if you annealed again, you might get a different colour? I've just annealed some Terra beads and they've gone from lovely purples and greens to dark brown - I thought I'd try sticking them back in the kiln to see what happened..
I agree they look very nice like they are, but I can also see that its frustrating if you wanted a different effect.
Re-anneal them?
Now there's an idea! Nowt to lose, I'll give it a go ;D
I know you really wanted to recreate the original bead but I rather like them. So if re-annealling does not work.....I'll be fighting all the others for them! ;D
Yeah, I think they are ded awful, best you could do with that lot I'm afraid is to send them to me! Te he ;) ;) ;)
With all my years of experience (about a third of a year to be precise ;D) and the huge length of time I've had the kiln (approx 3 weeks :o) and the fun and games I had over the weekend I'd suggest, if you were to have another go, to dance round the room with the bead before it goes in the kiln. So it cools down a bit more. The cooler beads definitely came out with more bluer colours. Also the smaller beads will cool quicker so will probably react better. I'm sticking the lentil I made back in for another go coz it's only a few bits of blue.
I reannealed a poopy Pandora for about six hours and it came out exactly the same as it went in! >:(
Cheers for that happy thought, Sal :P
I'll think of you while I dance round the room ;D
Soz :(
I'm trying really hard to see the value in a glass I have to anneal for far longer than I usually have the kiln on for, with absolutely no guarantee of the results!
Me too Colette - I have decided not to invest in this one for a change!
Kaz
I must admit that although I spent far too much on the last DH odds :o I just wasn't tempted by pandora and reading this and other threads, I haven't regretted it yet.
Surely what you'll get from Pandora depends on how far along it's colour change cycle it is?
If the colour you have is the end of the line then will you get anything different? or can you undo Pandora somehow?
But....if you haven't unlocked it's colours yet then it's worth re annealing and trying maybe a hotter area?
Oh Sarah, you tease .. you hint at the answer ... go on, tell us more, you clever science person,
PLEASE!!!! :-*
no no no, not what I was trying to do....
But, follow this link to lampwork etc.. ..ignore all the body part jokes and head to post number 21.
oops, forgot the link http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110442&highlight=Pandora
Here's another one (long) about Pandora
http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101512
I think this one is aptly named. If you don't know what I mean try googling for the Greek myth about Pandora ;)
This one's a diva alright! There's even less rhyme or reason to how to get good consistent results from this. I took this photo this morning of a batch of pandora beads I made last night. All were made in the same way within minutes of each other and look at the difference!
What I do is put them back in the kiln again the next day and batch anneal them again ( Usually I have the kiln on daily as I anneal as I go) then they get to spend an eternity in the hope they will strike. Usually this will do the trick, but my record is one particular bead that spent the best part of a week in the kiln and still has done nothing! >:(
The trick, well I have found that the darker it goes in the kiln, the better your chances of colours striking without waiting days for it. Get them in early on in your session too. If you have any of the DH odd lots try mixing it with them as this can give fab results ( just remember to write down what you did! ;D )
My Kiln anneals at 510 so I have now set another batch annealling programme at 530 for these, and this has made the difference to these pandora beads too. I shall re anneal these end beads again tonight and report back tomorrow :D
BTW the colour striking cycle is amber first then pink purple blue green yellow red

When she gives up her secrets she is fab, but a bit to tempramental I think. There's far better glass to get the same colours from ;)
These are Pandora and one of the odd lots

Hope this helps, The thread on LE is really good too
Crickey, life is too short to bother with the hassle of Pandora. I'll be giving this glass a wide berth I think....
Hear Hear Sam!
When you get about 10 hours a week at the torch you can't be faffing around with this nonsense!
I just don't 'get' pandora. I have seen some nice beads but tbh some of the odds produce better results and easier by the sound of it.
Love the beads with the mix tho Jaq :D

That's just what I was going to say Sam! I'm far too busy to bother with temperamental little madams - there are much better behaved glasses which give just as pretty results. If she won't play nicely, give her her marching orders ;D

LOL, what do you not have time to faff with when you get 3 hours a week? ;D
I think you can probably figure that one out Sabine ::) ;D
Kaz
LOL!!!!!!!!! Great.....now I have couscous all over my keyboard!!! ;D ;D

I think they're all gorgeous!!
Julie - let us all know how you get on!
I have every faith in you!
Hmm....Thanks for the link Sarah - but that's a heck of an ugly bead at the start, I nearly spat out my soup! ;D
:D :D :D it looks like all the local strays decided to add a bit...its the funniest bead i ever saw....it's brilliant ;D
I won't be getting any of this new fangled pandora, my kiln is burning enough of a hole in the o-zone as it is ;)
I got some lovely results the once with Pandora (after 14 hours in annealling though!) but alas I encased with Lauscha and crrrrr-ack! So I tried to make more, poo poo more poo followed by poo (baby poo beige). Tried not encased and they are black and wont budge from black all except for some which are very very dark purple. I've gone through 2 thirds of my Pandora and only had one successful bead.
Pandora's keeping her box lid tight for me!
Well ... I bore in mind the advice about cooling and went for the part of my kiln that Sarah D. reckons is the coolest ... and it worked! Yay!
Nothing too exciting, but at least I got another bead like the one I liked, and I've made the lady's necklace and now at least Pandora will have paid for herself ;D
(And I agree about that bead on LE Sal, I didn't like to say anything over there, but what was it meant to be anyway ... I mean, even if it had come out purple it wouldn't have looked any better!!)
remember those beads I posted
this is them after one annealing cycle
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/lushie_rat/002-1.jpg)
3 of them went back in the kiln once up to 510 ( normal as you go annealing) and came out the same so they went in again ( batch anneal cycle upto 530 for 4 hours) and this is them today

PHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAW! :o
Wowsers - I liked them before and I'mpositively drooling now!
