ok... so question for you....
now I know that you cant use most precious and semi precious stones in glass as the heat would just disintergrate them...
but wot about diamonds... would it kill them as well...
right melting point is 3550 C so thats not an issue but would it survive annealing etc Mmmmm....dunno, could be expensive to find out ;D
lol.... I know... but you know when my mind starts scheming....
Interesting......I've got a diamond I could play with....would be a bit of a bummer if the bead then was c***and nobody wanted it, lol!
I'm reading this thinking either I'm mad or they are..... :-\
no... its most definately me... mad as accused
Same here.....when I was doing silversmithing, I bought a broken diamond ring in America, thinking I could fix it and sel it on....never did, though :-\
I doubt the diamond would survive. A diamond is still a natural stone with impurities an flaws, that might react when heated. But it's your stone ;)
I have seen it done with opals by Bruce St.John Maher....will try to find a link
Modified to add http://www.gemcutter.com/maher.htm
Gorgeous bits of glass.....he also makes jaw dropping murrine
OMG Jo, what did you do that for!!!!! My wallet can't take another hit! ;D
That opal is actually synthetic fire opal. It works with boro if you use small pieces - so I've been told ::)
fire opal in boro... or little bitta boro fused in soft glass
i put an opal in soft glass an it survived.
.. no you cant see it, it was a totally shockingly bad bead in design and a complete fugly. but the opal did survive
Can I see it if I ask really really nicely?? ;D ;D ;D
lol, as its you, if i can find it to take a pic of then i will post it
Yay!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
could you please share with the rest of the class! ;)
those landscape beads are fantastic,
