Title: glass-what colours to start with?
Post by: princess pink on July 02, 2008, 10:15:57 PM
After I kindly received some yummy glass in a raogk, i need to get some more glass to add to it and practice with. I know i need basic colours like black, ivory, white, and lauscha clear. but what colours should I order to go with them as a beginner? I want to order in single rods to start with and not in 1/4 kilos as for now i just want to play. thanks in advance x

How about a mixed pack of opaque and another of transparent from Tuffnells?

If you only want single rods I would suggest the starter packs and maybe some of the CIM mixed packs. I find CIM a very easy glass to handle and the colours are nice. Check out off-mandrel's online shop as singles are available as well as packs.

I'd order a 1/4 kilo of white, black, clear and ivory in addition to the mixed packs.

mixed packs of anything are great, but i think most of all get the colours you like, when I was starting out I didn't get anything to expensive as I messed it all up, infact out of my mixed pack of effetre I used all the colours I wasn't so keen on to start with :D

right well all my glass has arrived and i decided to stick to colours i like, so mainly blues and greens, but a few random purples, corals, butter pecans etc chucked in. also got some base colours in ivory, black and white. although made a huge boo boo on the white. i thought soft white meant it was softer to work with and melted quicker, so got some of that and some normal white, and only when i held then next to each other did i see the difference! D'oh! I'm so happy i have my own glass!!!! xx

LOL on the white - I wish mine melted a bit slower!

Have fun with your glass. I seem to be turning into a bit of a collector myself <whistles innocently>
