Title: White goes brown
Post by: Lush! on June 09, 2008, 12:54:42 PM
Can anyone help please?

I've been asked for black and white beads with silver - but the silver wire and the white make a mucky brown mess.  I think this is happening on both Effetre white and CIM Peace.

I tried putting a clear band round the centre and wrapping the wire round that but it was just a mess.

Any better ideas?

Sorry, I'm no help but I just wanted to say the Anise does the same, it turns a yellow colour.  Good luck in finding a solution.  You could maybe try Reichenbach rods?  I don't have any white although I have plenty of black - maybe Martin can help?  Mary our resident alchemist may have a solution or suggestion for you.  Possibly a lauscha colour...?

I'm not going to be helpful with an alternative white either, but could you just put silver on the black half?

I think you'll have to use the silver on the black.  I think even if using the wire like stringer and applying single dots you'll still get the brown around the dot.

Or you could encase the white maybe?

Would it work if you put a tiny blob of clear on the white and a dot of silver on top?

I just saw on RedHotSal's website front page, lots of white beadies with silver and NO BROWN stain.  What's your secret, Sal?

I'm just wondering.. did Q once say the Vetro white was nicely unreactive? Or even the odd cotton?
