LOL Sandy - I know that feeling!
Sorry I have no advice to offer.
I bought some too, but can't seem to do much with them yet. So far it's going quite a milky colour, or just goes mirror shiny. I want that lustre effect that's on the picture ???
Have you tried anything at all yet?
will give it a go when it arrives,
i too want it to look like the pic! didnt do well with northstar double purple :( :(

I want these effects!
(I hope it's OK to post a link to LE?!)
it's buy far the easiest glass ever to reduce and i''ve been using it all week, you just waft it in a reducung flame and you get that lovely mirror shine
I can see your reflection Kaz ;D ;D ;D
I had some delivered this morning (thanks Martin) but I won't get to play for a few days, if anything groovy happens I will show you :) Those are lovely lentils Kaz ;D
I was getting 'mirror' shiny last night, too. I was also using M-166 at the same time and I can slightly see some colouring in it, not just pure silver. I will have to post a piccie ;D
Fiona - I have the same problem with Northstart double purple, I tried it again a few nights ago and there's a little blue around the edge near the mandrel, but the rest is pretty much 'poo' !! I see you were after some psyche, I only have frit, but Martin will usually sell single rods if you get stuck.
this is what i want to get!!
not really mirror shiny....

I`ve just put this together... triton & silvered ivory.

Depends on the effect you are going for - I reduce very little as I prefer the beautiful purples and greens rather than creamier colours..... I found it the easiest to use.

thats fab!
lovely colours not just mirror shiny!!
whisper your secret ;)
sandy
Maybe I'm reducing a bit too much? I'll have another go later or tomorrow.
With some of the DH glass, if you get the mirror finish then top with clear, you get the colours.. at least, I do it when I'm doing dots, topped with raised clear bumps..
I would love to know how long you are supposed to reduce, to get bright purple and pink colours.. after you heat it hot and let it cool, is it a quick waft or hold it in the reducing flame till it glows?
Blimey, its a science in itself this silver glass malarkey :o

Take your bead out of the flame, let it cool slightly (so its not glowing) turn up your propane (or turn down your oxygen for a less aggressive flame - some DH glass like elektra love aggressive flames - the others dont so much) waft your bead in the flame for a few seconds, take it for about five, put it back in the flame for a few and hey pretso! Yummy colours - dont reduce till molten....unless you like silver central! If you reduce too much pass the bead through an oxygen rich flame, it kinda erases the damage and you can start again.
Any more info please feel free to PM me, I`m rubbish at following up threads :)
Clare xx
Thank you so much! I will try it next time I'm at the torch :)
I think you also have to be prepared to try out different base glasses and techniques. I suspect that most of the people who are consistently getting good colour out of silver glass have worked pretty hard at it.
All good fun! :D
I have been trying for over a year now! I know I can get certain results with certain colours, and unfortunately I find the best is Terra, (which I should be conserving), which does give blues/ purples in small amounts, but the bright pinks and purples with all the other glasses have been eluding me!
I am ok with the reducing colours - I`m completely rubbish with striking. I have no patience :) Let me know how you get on xx
Thanks Clare - and I forgot to say that I like that bead you posted earlier in this thread ;D
Thankyou so much:) I just love DH! xx
I gave in and got some Triton, it arrived today. So this is Triton and SIS on CIM Stoneground (not cleaned, sorry! And the light was poor). It's really easy to get colours. You can reduce briefly several times, and then very gently warm in a neutral/oxy flame, the colours just appear.

Ooh yummy! I think I might have to get some..
Oh God - I really want some now I've seen this - but I've put myself on a glass buying ban! :(
I am soooo jealous! I ordered some of this from the States AGES ago - I have no clue what has happened to it. Lurking around in customs somewhere no doubt! Its not FAIR lol!
THese beads look great :)
Emma, my DH odd lots haven't arrived either. I'm glad I didn't order the Triton then, I would have felt so guilty ordering another lot from Martin!
Its so frustrating lol - Wonder how long I'll have to wait ARGH! Wasnt so long last time - Martin didnt even have it when I ordered it from the states - think I have another colour coming too that I wont be able to do anything with - Khaos. Order shows as complete - hope it arrives soon ! Glad its not just me lol !
Mary that looks gorgeous - makes me want to try some - but I shouldnt........ ;)
just love the bead mary, they are the fab colours i was hoping for,
my triton came today, didnt have much time to play, got mirror shiny , think i am over reducing it,
i am on a hothead, where in the flame do i put the bead to reverse what ive done??!!
did get a few pretty colours over pale avocado, was using my press so didnt work it too long,
will try again tomorrow!
mine haven't arrived from DH either, but there is something waiting for me at the post office that needed signing for, so it might be my glass. Then again, it might not :D
Sandy, are you reducing with the foil collar? If so, hold the bead way out, at arm's length, you'll get a lighter reduction that way. Then just warm it again in the tip of a normal flame. As long as you don't get it too hot again, or you'll melt away what you've just done! You can repeat as often as you need, but I'm getting better colours on first try, if I keep the reduction light.
thanks for that mary, i do cover the holes for reduction, i think i am being too heavy handed!
will try tomorrow
Thanks Mary you answered my thoughts! I've been too heavy handed with my HH reducing.
- mental note - keep at arms length - lightly!!! Great tip.
Thanks again, Elisa
