Title: Red transparent (striking) glass
Post by: Pam on May 03, 2008, 12:58:10 PM
Well although I am not a newbie  I didn't know where to put this question.
Red striking transparent glass(Eff), how do I stop it going murky, Looks good (bright red) until you look at an angle and the you see ugly murky streaks. Also sometimes it is darker than other times.
I am working in the cooler part of the flame and on duel fuel.
Has anyone got any recommendations?
Thanks for taking an interest.

Maybe it's the annealing? Try saving it to the end of a session, so it gets a shorter soak, it can overcook in the kiln.

I've found this glass to be wildly sensitive to heat, both torch and kiln heat. When I've used it, (and it's rare for me to use it), I've found that immediately encasing it with clear seems to help protect it. It can be struck under the clear, with caution.

Depending on what you're doing, the Vetrofond Arancio Perfecto (which I adore) over opaque red will give you a killer scarlet, and you can work the Arancio pretty much forever. And in the kiln, it just gets better.
