Title: tribal troubles!
Post by: flowerjasper on March 22, 2008, 09:11:57 PM
i have some tribal tourquoise, lovely colour,
how do you get the red reduction colours from it?
am on a HH, have put my foil collar  on, nothing,
have put the bead in the "bit i shouldnt! by the base of the flame nothing,
the reason i ask is i wanted to do a bead with a trail of clear over the bead before reduction, then bring out the colour, hopefully giving me a two tone bead,
ideas welcome x

I did this by accident once and I'm pretty certain it was cos I had the bead way too far down the flame - Nortel Minor.

This isn't tribal turquoise, it was celadon but I managed to get the red quite easily so you could always try it if you have some.

Wow thanks guys, it was just a tester bead I made while trying other combo's for the Vetrofond resource thread. It's just CiM Celadon trailed with DH Aion and heavily reduced. The Aion has turned silver grey and the red has really come to the surface.

Hi Sandy,

I shouldn't really be posting here, as I have about 1.5 weeks of experience with the HH... I read about the foil collar, and made a beautiful one, but wasn't able to reduce much.  Then I stopped faffing about, got my oven glove and covered those holes completely - that gave a beautifil reducing flame; "big and bushy" as it says in the book!!  I don't have a lot of reducing glass yet, but the little bits of DH Gaia reacted very nicely  ;D

Great idea Julie! The holes of my HH are very close to the edge of the table, so my foil collar keeps falling off, so I'll be digging out an old oven glove... ;D

I've got a torch top marver, so it makes covering the holes a bit tricky, so I have to waft in the blue flame, but not sure it's as effective?  Be better once I get a new torch...!  Roll on Flame Off !!  ;D   Hope Martin has plenty of stock, looks like a few of us have the same idea !!
