I,ve been giving my DSP shards a try but all that is happening is its turning black i,m doing it on ivory.
can someone tell me what i may be doing wrong .

what torch are you using?

i use a minor and it likes to be wafted a bit, high in the flame too you might be getting the colours and then burning them out
