Title: Laucha Supernova!?!?!?
Post by: Jolene on December 20, 2007, 08:06:03 PM
Has anyone got any tips for / pics to show off using Laucha Supernova. I have recently been given a rod by Bee and neither of us can do anything with it except get a yummy Cadbury purple (The rod colour!)

Thanks, Jo

Hi Jolene,

This is a post from Carol Ann for Lauscha (found it somewhere):
Begin working the glass by heating the end of the rod in a reducing flame where the yellow part of the flame is about an inch long. I have the rod 2.5 inches from my burner. I take my tweezers and twist the glass over and over. Then I shape it into whatever object I am going to make - bead, ring, pendant or vessel. Then I go back to a neutral flame and hold the item out of the flame, and decorate with stringer from the same colour which I didn't reduce. Then I put the whole thing back in a reducing flame. But THIS time, I make the reducing flame a really long one where the yellow middle part of the flame is about 3 or 4 inches long. I let the tip of this reducing flame "kiss" the surface of my object and can see the colours intensifying. But the things that were not formerly reduced, they don't develop as much colour, but instead they stay clear and give depth to the piece.

Try reducing it, then encasing. Or decorate it with another silver colour, they really react together!
