Title: Once you've done one...
Post by: garishglobes on July 27, 2014, 12:07:51 PM
I seem to have been developing a theme  ::)  ::)

The shades clip in using the spring clip in the existing shade holder - which works really well, something I was surprised to find when I first did this (apologies for the duplicate red chandelier here, but the photo is just so much better!). The lattice effect at the top is fun to put together but what I think I like most about these is that they use blowing and sculpture and colour, all the things I like doing best  :) What I don't like is that each 'shade' has about 24 hanging pieces.. so around 72 in total. Which, when you start off, seems a bit of a mountain!

Oh, and then there are security lights:

Which I would like to do again but with squiggles at both ends.

I'd love to see these all lit up at night... do you have any pics? It would be great to wire one up with an individual LED inside each flower...

Thank you  :)
We have the red one up and it does look lovely all lit. I'm really, really enjoying playing with lighting but every now and then I feel that I still have a way to go with understanding the actual lighting part.... LED's inside each flower would be a case in point. I have all sorts of plans for lit blown flowers and for table lamps with a short base, shade and LED - but absolutely can't get my head around the mechanics! It'll come....slowly....!

I love all three but the red one is something special, I think because it reflects colours found in nature. Do you have a friendly local electrician who can give you a lesson in wiring in small LED lights?

The red is my favourite too, though the aqua runs it very close. I do have a friendly neighbourhood electrician and you are right, I need to pin him down and get him to explain a few things. Thanks to Glenn, my knowledge of lighting has come on quite a way in the last few months but there are still gaps, possibly because of my butterfly mind! It also seems as if there are a lot of fairly new and interesting LED ideas coming on to the market at the moment, all of them with glass potential  :D

They look amazing, and love how each part is individual and can move (plus practically speaking it also means if they are knocked by accident there is less chance of breaking too as the bits can swing out of the way) I think you've really got these nailed down!  ;D

You are right there. I can confirm (or rather, my other half confirmed by trying! And then, having been told it wasn't a good idea, forgetting and trying again....) that swinging a stepladder at them isn't destructive  ::)

Glad they're ladder proof though!

Hi Emma,

How big a box are we taking about , there is 6 big brown crabs waiting to have a hot bath as we speak after last nights trip but the lobsters were all undersized so I threw them back with a bit more food to eat for next time .

How is the Royal Mails small print about sending crabs and lobsters in the post I wonder.

Cheers ,
Martin
