Title: New Efftre colours, where?
Post by: KatheL on January 13, 2014, 05:38:46 PM
Can anyone tell me which European dealer normally gets the new Effetre colours first?
They always get presented at Frantz Art Glass in US first, and it takes forever till they reach the dealers I know off..  ???

Tuffnells have just had some Effetre arrive, and also a new Double Helix glass.

Frantz has an exclusive relationship with Effetre which allows them to have colours custom made for them by Effetre, and they are the only stockist of those.  So a lot of the Effetre colours you see on Frantz never leave the USA (Unless of course you choose to order from them!)

It's so frustrating, I try not to look at Frantz because I always see a fabulous new Effetre colour there...just fallen in love with Ka-bluey!  :(

In my opinion  Ka-bluey isn't worth it.  It looks lovely on the website, so I ordered some with other colours when I was in the US last Sept.  I brought it back to be an interesting colour to be played with by the members of the Devon Flameworkers, and we all tried it and found it wanting.  You get grey with a few streaks of blue - very boring.

I just saw on LE that they persuaded effetre to make sandstone, but Frantz had to buy the whole production run. I don't know why, because that was a very popular colour here too.

Apparently all the "special" colours you see on Frantz are made specially for him by Effetre, and again, he gets them because he's prepared to buy the whole run.  Being in the US, he clearly has a large enough customer base to make this feasible, whereas with the UK being much smaller, Tuffnell's would take years to shift the same amount I'd imagine.

I'm not sure if Tuffnell's get stock from Frantz as a vendor or not - if so, it would explain why they had some Sandstone a while back.

Sediment is also available at www.artyco.nl . It is worth it checking out the Dutch and German vendors, they often get the special colours after a while.
