The colour of the month challenge is jointly sponsored by Off Mandrel (thank you Sean and Gillian!) and Frit Happens!
Each month the lucky winner, chosen by a random number selector, will receive a £20 gift voucher to spend on-line with Off Mandrel. The draw will take place at the start of **September** Last entries before midnight of the last day of August so make sure you get your entries in to be in with a chance to win the goodies!
A reminder that the entries should be new work.
So, the colour for the month for August 2013 is Opaque Pale Blue (591224) and/or Baby Blue (591038). Come on let's see your creations!
This has been requested in celebration of the birth of a certain little G man.
Good luck!
Oooh, nice colour. And, following my blue spotty bead make I have an order for more blue spotty beads, so will be getting the blues out this weekend...
038 isn't baby blue, it's pale aqua. It's been wrong on Tuffer's site for years. Just ask Colette!
Damn it and that's where I got the numbers from!! Ok, I'll accept both pale aqua and Baby blue.
(The home computer with the inventory (and my entire bloomin life!!) is at the computer shop at the mo as it won't boot and 70% of my glass is now in storage as part of project "making flat normal" so I can sell it. Picking colours has been a little challenging in itself!)
I have Opaque Pale Blue (591224) so we can't use that one now? - 591038 is Baby Blue in Transparent.

No, the picture on the site that shows 038 as baby blue is incorrect. 038 is a very pale aqua, not blue at all. A couple of years ago it took a friend a lot of effort to get the right colour :D
Just me getting confused ;)
My 591224 is labelled Light Sky Blue. Is this OK?
Nick
Am I missing something?
Have I missed the draws for June?
Linda x
Now I do have light sky blue...is that the same?
Oh no Im just really confused now (easily done)! :-\
Please can you definitively clarify the colours for this month's challenge as I have random rods of blues coming out of every corner of my glass stash!
038 Baby Blue is my favourite colour :)
Linda x
I'm taking it that the 038 is the transparent blue
as seen here
http://off-mandrel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=284
You are going to get fed up with me. Sorry. The picture that Tuffnell's and Off Mandrel have of 038 are not accurate. I think OM get their glass from Tuffnell's so that would explain why they are the same.
Have a look at Miriam's colour chart
http://www.facet-design.com/wp/kleurkaarten/effetre/
I'm not saying any more. I was just trying to correct a mistake but I won't try any more
No Baby blue on the above chart and some of the names are different esp on the ambers and blues to that on TG's site. My 224 looks more like Baby Blue, now I am confused, :D
Lordy!! ::) Lets go for all glass that is a light blue be it transparent or opaque. Think 'Baby Blue' colours.
Understood! ;D
:D ;D
Great stuff ;D
Phew!
;D
LOL ;D
Come on then, lets see what you have :D

I need a lie down after before I plan something .. LOL
mmm.... lie down....no, no don't tempt me I MUST be productive today, the man is coming to take away all my glass and arty stuff on wednesday and must be ready!
I love the baby blue colours...looking forward to seeing what everyone creates...off to look through my stash of glass and see which ones I have. :)
Okey dokey while you lot were umming and arhhhing over which blue was which - I was just melting glass. These will be turned into a necklace and bracelet and earring set by the end of the weekend (made a few additional which are annealing as I type)!
The blues are 244 and 238 as per their labels on my rods (names - not even going to get into that ;D)
The lime is there cos I like it and need it for the tom-foolery!

Those are lovely missus!
They are lovely ! I really like the colour combination :)
Just my colours!
Right .. I have some bad boys in the kiln!
Love those colours together, Gay.
Here's my meagre offering - not getting a lot of torch time at the mo and unusual for me to have the 'right' colour!
Baby blue as labelled with mystery frit (label fell off ::) ) fresh from the kiln yesterday and on their way to someone with a penchant for these as she keeps asking for more :)

Thanks for all the lovely comments - loving your frittie beads Sue - gorgeous!
Thank you, Gay. One day I will have the time to make more than the bread and butter stuff, but then I have a lot of frit to work through first :o
Your frit beads are really pretty sue :) some colours are just classy :)
Very pretty Sue x
Ok, here's mine

Ooohh that heart is lovely
Love those beads Trudi and the heart is really pretty too :)
ohh lovely heart!
Lovely beads everyone. Trudy I made spotted ones yesterday with the view to etching them!
Great minds Sarah!
Not getting much time on the torch at the moment with other commitments but felt that I had to at least do something for the monthly challenge.

So, in keeping with the general theme, a pale blue, with some other pastel colours to complement, and the centre bead has transparent blue dots to give a sense of depth.
Superb work from everyone else though.
Mark
Really nice colour combination Mark :)
Beautiful beads, Mark, I love the butterfly heart and wow, blue over white looks lovely (have loads of white, never known what to do with the gloopy mess) so Trudi's beads are gorgeous :)
Lovely colours Mark! ;D

hmm second attempt at posting my pics.... I need a new brain.First piccy is Ghee and light sky blue and the second is orange and light sky blue. Its the closest to baby blue I had. :)

The blue and orange combination is especially nice and summery.
Is it just me or is this a very difficult colour to photograph?! It's taken me ages to get a fairly reasonable picture... anyway, here's my effort!

Ooh, lovely :) the ruby gold looks pretty over blue, I inherited a large tub of it and never had much success (I use it as a paperweight ::) )
Some beautiful beads peeps, perhaps I'll have another go if I get some torch time this weekend.
Is there a special way to work ruby gold? I just stuck it on and melted it in :-\
Love the blue patterned ones they look really delicate and pretty :)
Here's some from me using CIM Zachary (described as an opaque baby blue, so I figured it would count!) plus some Effetre baby blue transparent. There's dichro in the central bead for a bit of sparkle.

I love your beads Helen. They are really beautiful colours.
They are lovely beads Helen love the patterns in them :)
Oooooh Helen!
Thanks guys :D
They're really yummy Helen x
Wow, that's really really cool! I love how round they are, and how complex (given the fact that only a few colours were used)
Oh my word - what a treat for the old eyeballs since I last looked - gorgeous! ;D
Time to go break out the blues I reckon....
Now I have the blues - couldn't make diddly squat that I was happy with. I officially do not like baby blue or any derivative of pale blue. Am most unimpressed with myself! But here are my paltry offerings nonetheless showing various attempts of baby blue trans and any other pale blue I had to hand.

Aww well done for perservering AnnaSpanna, looks like you got there in the end X
Can I enter this one please.

Some lovely stuff this month!
Here is my offering. I had 2 rods of each colour, so I made a sort of set of one colour on another, both colours with frit, then one of each etched, one transparent dotted and etched, a couple of lentils, an encased flowery, and a disc (to try out my new roller!). I apologise to Gay for my (inexpert) copying of her style with copper wire, but I had some wire, and hers always look so beautiful. I intend to keep it, not offer it for sale, so I hope she doesn't mind.

Nick
Love all the different styles you have used Nick , the necklace is very nice !
Thank you, Lorna. It was fun to make. The only problem is that now I'm not sure if I have enough left of the two colours to make some little beads for earrings to go with it. Haven't got time to get more, as I want them for my trip to America next week. I've got a couple of stub ends, so I'll see what I can do (I foresee singed fingers, unless I take off the labels and join the stubs to another rod :D)
Nick
A silly little fishy from me :D

Ok here goes, my first try at uploading anything on here!
I am still super new to making beads and these are my little offerings of some soft baby blues, please be kind!
P.S I am unsure if I have done the picture right :-\
