Title: rubino oro
Post by: turnedlight on November 02, 2007, 07:16:14 PM
Is it difficult to encase rubino oro? I made a lentil with it in the middle, and heavily encased, and it cracked. I was just wondering if it is temperamental, or whether I should try again..

Don't know about encasing it as I haven't much. Are you putting the lentil straight into the kiln or cooling it? I've had lentils crack if they don't go straight into the kiln.

I put them straight in. I think I'll try again - I did like the effect! If there's any other glass that has that bright pink colour, I'd like to hear.  ;)

Hi turnedlight,
I've worked a little with Rubino and had no problems with cracking. The only thing is the colour and not to work it too hot. Rubino is the prettiest pink I think you could look at some other colours in CIM or ASK maybe.

I dont have a problem encasing Rubino but it does go cloudy very easily if you heat it too much  - I think the cracking may just be its not going in the kiln quite hot enough those presses really do cool the glass quite rapidly so worth putting it in with a bit of a glow to it.
Gold Violet Reichenbach 104 which Martin has I love and is less tempremental than Rubino - not quite as beautiful but a close second and its not as hard to burn out the colour although it is still a striking glass or so it seems to me !

Hope that helps give it a go and see what you think -

CIM Gelly's Sty Pink is a GORGEOUS opaque pink if that helps?

I do have gelly's sty - love it! but I'm looking for a bright trans pink (will be trying out the reichenbach as suggested! ) I had the same problem again today - two hearts with swirls of rubino in the middle and encased with a pale trans pink effetre - straight in the kiln - and they both cracked - I made one into a pendant before I noticed!  ??? I think I'll just use it on the outside of beads from now on.

and there are also some nice Vetrofond transparent pinks, although they are all quite light.

also, the grapefruit crush (lightly transparent) and the flamingo pink are great - they are FFGH (the same company that makes ASK colours) and fully 104 compatible?..
