Title: Reduction frit stringers
Post by: bellag13 on June 10, 2013, 08:40:40 AM
Hi Everyone

In Passing the Flame she suggests using pyrex glass as the clear for reduction frit stringers but hasn't said why
This means I need to buy some Boro or similar so before I do, I was wondering what do you guys do and why ! :)

thanks for the help
Bella

What page is that on?  If you can let us know, we can check the context for you.

I can't remember that part in the book but you certainly wouldn't want to make stringers out of boro and then use them on soft glass, because they would be massively incompatible!

I generally have only ever used boro for punties.

She means to use the boro to pick up the frit and heat it in the flame, then pull the frit into a stringer.  ;D as the frit melts quicker than the boro you will just have a reduction frit stringer.

o right, thanks Emma
I thought the frit would be mixed with the clear.

I suppose the reduction wouldn't work if it had clear around it ?

sorry as you can tell I'm a bit new to this :)
