Title: Query please
Post by: Edi (Edith) on January 27, 2013, 06:39:56 PM
I havent been in my bolt hole for months but I have been folowing FH and looking at what everyone is upto and what has been made by everyone. I have bought some tutorials and I need to buy some good quality clear so can I please ask for advise on this. I know everyone has there own choice. The tutorials are encouraging me back into the bolt hole.

Effetre 006 is a good all rounder (I do a lot of encasing - don't rate 004) - DH Zephyr is gorgeous but expensive!   ;D

The best all rounder at a reasonable price is Effetre 006, in my opinion. You do need to wipe the rods and I always melt the cut end and pull it away to avoid scumming. I love Lauscha, but it's a little more expensive and I know it can be temperamental when encasing some, but not all silver glass. The best if you're not thinking about cost would be Double Helix Zephyr.

Absolutely LOVE Zephyr, and since I discovered it, won't use anything else.... hang the expense! lol

Zephyr is the holy grail of clears, I think if you encase a lot or work with DH or other expensive stuff like dichroic often then you have to have zephyr! Effetre 006 is ok but does need cleaning and sometimes bubbles and scum plucking off which can be a pain, I will only really use this when the final bead is to be etched. It really depends on your budget and the kind of beads you make  :)

I like Richenbach Crystal, couldn't find 006 on Tuffnell's when I ordered yesterday.  Zephyr is gorgeous but oh so expensive; I save the few rods I have for something special.

Oh that is sad it was a colour I really liked, my daughter bought me some a couple of years ago and I made her some jewelery from it and I would have liked to make her some more.
