Anyone know the recommended speed for drilling glass and how to stop it moving? Do I just hold onto it??

As far as I have read, place it in a dish of water and drill very slowly a bit at a time and keep hold of it. Have fun with that fab new tool

You could put blue tack under it to stop it moving. Janet

When I drill sea glass I put under water, drilling onto a bit of wood, hold tight, keep fingers out of the way (recommended), you need a fast speed on a diamond tipped drill and not too much pressure or the glass will split.  It's a bit of trial and error to start with.

You can get some inexpensive diamond tube drills from B&Q The smallest is I think 3mm. I agree with Sue put a bit of plywood down on the bed of the drill press and use the fastest speed with water. A good tip is to make a ring of plasticine around where you want to drill to make a reservoir of water.

Be very carefull with your fingers, even at low speeds the glass can catch and spin round when you are not expecting it.

In these situations it would be handy to have 3 hands.  ;D

So I bought a drill bit, which is actually a saw (it cuts out a circle)...my vocabulary is failing me today.
Spoke to the person I got it from on ebay and he said go slow, with as much water as possible. This is what I did an shazam - I has made big hole for clock mechanism! All for £2.49!

That's a nice clock! I have to get one of those drill bits too, I've been wanting to make a glass lamp shade  :)

Thanks Noora! As ever, I learnt a lot from it...especially that glass is not always 6mm!
