Title: Setting up a hot head torch
Post by: bearyboo on August 29, 2012, 08:50:51 AM
Hwllo. I am new here!

I went on a lampworking class and I loved it that much, I went and ordered all of the materials needed including a hot head torch. It is arriving today and I want to set everything up properly so I dont get problems further down the line.

Can anyone help me out with this problem? I would like to connect it up to a small propane tank in my room. What else do I need to connect everything up correctly?

Any advice is appreciated :)

You will need an adaptor if you want to connect to bulk propane.  Hotheads are designed to run on small disposable cannisters.  You can get adaptors here (3rd one down).   http://www.tuffnellglass.com/contents/en-uk/d100.html.

You'll need a flashback arrestor too especially if its in the house you can get them from Tuffnells website if you don't have one already with your starter kit

If you've bought the kit from Martin at Tuffnells you should get all you need to connect everything up.  The kit contains a 4 bar propane regulator, propane flashback arrestor, 5 mtr of propane hosing and the torch connector.  All the kit is joined together and ready to use once you screw the cylinder on one end and the torch on the other.

Remember to check for leaks once you've got it all set up.  Have fun!   ;D

Thanks very much for your help.

I have bought myself a small can of MAPP gas so I can start creating until my starter kit arrives :)
