Title: Alien Pathology & Parasite Specimens
Post by: Steampunkglass on March 06, 2012, 08:43:49 PM
I've been playing with this idea for a while now, but now shown any of what I've done, but they are all based on me watching way too many 'B' movies and images I've seen from electron microscopes of bugs and beasties. They are quite big, and I'm probably going to pop them into shadow boxes to display them as though they are scientific specimens that have been caught on an alien world and preserved. I've popped in a couple of close ups to show the scale.

All of which shows I either spend too much time thinking, watching dubious tv films, or I need to go to the docs for some sane pills!  :P :D :D :D

Love these Glenn, they're fab, and I love the science-specimen-microbiology-thing going on  (then again, I do have a bit of a thing for scientific imagery!)

I've love to see them displayed in a museum glass topped drawer or something similar.... like a butterfly collectors cabinet.....  ;D ;D

Wonderfull. Keep taking the tablets  ;D

The little chap on your hand looks like Vitrum flagelliformis, usually found under the carpet in poorly maintained HotShops. Harmless unless it is sub species V. flagelliformis flagelliformis "Glenn" with the extra tentacle on the posterior surface. Take care Glenn as it can cause hallucinations in the unwary.

Would look really cool in a case with pencil sketches of the internal organs alongside.

Keep 'em coming, Pete.

It's all been said, keep em coming Glen. I can recommend the B movies on the Horror channel if you need more inspiration. Makes me think of the blown up photos displayed on Abby's wall in NCIS.

Fantastic! I love the direction you work in. Always wondered what planet you were on Glen.  ;D
Reminds me of the work of Ernst Haeckel. His Radiolarians in particular. If your not familiar with them I can recommend "Art forms from the ocean" a I think it would give you even more inspiration. Not that you really need it.

They really are fab, I love them. Have a look at the sea creatures seen around deep sea smoker stacks and other deep trench creactures  if you need more inspiration, but looking at these I think you have a direct line to the weird and wonderful  ;D

Having another coffee and trying to the cat off my lap, lol!!!

Yes, I will be selling them, probably going to make some more better ones first, just trying to sort out some nice deep box frames for them to go in. The red one though has a crack in the head  :'( :'( :'( I'm going to see if I can gently get that to fuse back together, but not sure it'll work. These large headed ones are a bit tricky, and I keep forgetting to warm them as I work on the details.

I was going to put some scientfic 'names' under them, but couldn't come up with any, besides my handwritting is terriable!!!!

Now you've said that, it's reminded me that I was looking at Dorothea Tanning pictures a few months ago, and her pictures of girls tearing wallpaper, strange how all this stuff mashes up in your subconcious

Awwww broken  :'(
They are really trial pieces, after doing the red one it showed me how I needed to change the order I make them, so was able to go on to do the green one without any problems. It's only a small break, and I wasn't worried as I didn't think the head on this one was so interesting. I only popped on the photo to show the scale and where I was going with my glass, I didn't expect everyone to be so excited about them!  ;D

You seem as sane as any of us are :)

I adore them and so would my Trekkie DH, well done Glenn. Your work is perfectly original.

On your etsy I've been eyeing up the glass rocket ship pendant and the blue planet earrings.

In fact I wish you weren't so far away, I could drag you up here for a lesson ;) I'd tell DH he has to pay for me to get a man in to show me his marbles...

Sorry, lowering the tone again.  ;D ;D

Glad you like them, I'm still tweeking the designs so once I've got them right and sorted some good frames they'll be even stranger ones to come  ;) Mind you it's get such that I'm making sure the kiln is properly shut before I dare go to bed at night... I've seen enough movies that show what happens is you don't ! :P :D

Oh my I do love these! So much my style. I like the one in the shadow box. Some interesting scientific names for these is a must. Along with a brief description as to where they were discovered.
Amazing stuff!
