Title: best zingy orange
Post by: mel on March 01, 2012, 07:04:24 PM
Can anyone suggest a real zingy orange that's ok to work with Hades. I tried effetre orange 591422 which is a lovely zesty colour, but was really shocky (worse than anise white!) and when I pulled stringer it was a dull apricot/orange stripey job-the rods look like they do have a different coloured core so that could be why. I then tried reichenbach opal orange, again really zingy colour, but quick to melt comp with the hades so had to heat the hades hard to press it, meanwhile the orange scorched in places, it's do-able though. Is there an easy, stable orange that's a really bright sharp colour and has less foibles? I really don't want to change my black.

Have you true lauscha?

Nope, I don't have any lauscha. Would it replace the Hades?

I have a gorgeous orange here, I'm not sure if it's Lauscha or Kulgar though. I rescued it from Kaz's abandoned shorts box.

And if you are using Hades as the base and it isn't going to be saturated by anything or needed for webbing try one of the other cheaper blacks, may be a little easier to work with.

I'll go have a look and see if I can find out which orange it was.

edit - Kulgar Opal orange from Mango beads.

Yep, that was what I was going to suggest.  I also have a gorgeous orange here that you can't buy if you want a bit of it to try. x

I use 422 almost every day and don't find it shocky at all ???
You could try carrot red?
Or creamsickle for a paler orange?
I love orange!

And try striking orange over an opaque orange or yellow to get an intense orange!

Thanks folks, striking orange over an opaque orange sounds very zingy, I'll give that a go. I think I'm challenged with both colours, I use hades as i've tried effetre and reichenbach and had problems with both. Can't remember exactly what, possibly devitrifying. I do tend to work very hot though as my last oxy concentrator didnt like being turned down. I have a new one now, maybe I should slow down a bit. I'll also look at the Kulgar orange. Thanks again for your advice everyone.

I'm rather fond of clockwork (CIM) at the moment. :)

hummm orange.  Madeline Bunny likes orange, maybe she has some tips if she sees this thread.

Sorry Madeline, couldn't remember how your second name spelt, so I thought of Bunnies.  ;)

This is a mixture of three oranges, I think it's quite zingy.  Janet

ha, yes, the bunnies.  and it is me with the orange obsession.

erm...I'm not entirely sure what more I can add to this discussion. creamsicle is always a favourite, but is lighter

I'm not that fond of one of the batches of 422 that I have, but one of my batches of coral is great, the other somewhat grey.but I couldnt say whether they are current or not. so not terribly helpful really! I wouldnt say any of them were especially shocky, perhaps your rod got dropped?

hopefully turning it down will help with any boiling/scorching/devitrfying type issues.
