Title: Shocking Pink? Magenta?
Post by: jazzylily on February 21, 2012, 03:53:04 PM
Hi

At last years Flame Off I bought some Reichenbach Pink Lady, Mystic Orange which I was told made a lovely shocking pink if encased in clear.  Just tried it today and yes it looks good but not really the bright pink I wanted - any ideas???

Thanks
Pauline

Clio over Clockwork - I got a shocking pink with that....but it has to go  Clockwork; fully encase (any CLio directly on that orange goes bleugh) then clio, strike, reduce and encase.  Think that's how I did it...   :D

Yes that is how Anouk taught us.

I bought Anouk's tutorial and havn't told anyone how she got the Bolleywood pinks, but i suppose it's OK now that she's shown you all how to do it?  or is it?  bit of a grey area here!

I don't know if that's how Anouk does it or not - I picked up the tips from a thread on LE  ;D

Miriam had a 'free' / small donation tutorial for this - if you search miriam you will find it (sorry can't work cut and paste properly on my phone  ::) )!

I wouldnt say shes shown us all to do it...there were what 8 on each day?

I trawled through that LE thread, and followed it and was just beginning to get somewhere when Miriam's tut came out, and then Anouk's too

in this particular case the info is 'out there' already, but the tuts are both have valuable info in, and put it together in a much more foolproof fashion, not so much experimenting with expensive glass and wasting it.

Tutorials are a luxury I can't afford unfortunately and luckily I love to experiment!

There have been a couple of other threads about getting great pinks - I think there was one that mentioned Gold violet over something....Sue has done it I think!  ;D

I tend to go for Bullseye if I want pinks - they're all foolproof, don't smut up in the flame, gorgeous clean bright pinks in every shade imaginable.  Although I've had good results layering, it can still be a bit hit and miss with how thick each layer is, and then you have the pain of encasing ...

ETA  This is a bullseye set I've just made, using cranberry

Over white it's a very bright pink.

Bullseye pinks are stunning, not fussy and strike!

Do you have to have a special torch for Bullseye glass.

Not at all, I work it on a mega minor and Alison works it on a minor, without a problem.  Schott glass is a bit stiff if you use it for encasing, but that's more of an issue of bead release rather than heat.  It's better than the bullseye clear though, I've found, and kicks the bum of the 104 clears.

You can also anneal it on the same cycle as 104!

I've worked Bullseye on a hot head with Mapp gas and now on a bobcat, so no problems with that. I find BE clear nice and bright and not had any problems with it since migrating to the bobcat - was occasionally scummy with the hothead. BE light fuchsia is gorgeous.

there is also a tutorial about how to get shocking pink in the last Flow magazine (the one with the gallery of women's flamework for 2012) - sounds very similar to the methods mentioned above with a layer of orange, then clear then clio and it goes into how to strike it etc

Excellent. I keep putting off playing with my bullseye as I've a restricted range of colours, so I'd not make a kiln full in one go. But now I know I can anneal with my 104 beads.....yippee!!!!
Thanks Trudi.

More magenta than shocking pink .... this is white encased with rubino and then rose!

Love the rasberry dottie - great colour.

Many thanks to all of you for your help and suggestions I do already have Mirams tutorial and I have bought some Clio which I am going to try out tomorrow.  I also received some Bullseye samples which was very kind to send them to me - thanks

Looks like this week is going to be PINK - hopefully
