Title: Pink glass
Post by: feebee64 on November 25, 2011, 08:16:32 PM
I have had a look around but I can't seem to find really pink glass - I suppose I mean shocking pink, vivid pink something like that. preferably opaque.

Can anyone suggest anything - must be COE104

Thanks

EDP

bit temperamental and if you want pink it will probably go purple!(cause when I want purple it goes pink!)

Lime, Periwinkle and Hot Pink (http://www.flickr.com/photos/madelinebunyan/6384921045/) by madelinebunyan (http://www.flickr.com/people/madelinebunyan/), on Flickr

these have EDP that has stayed more pink.

Pink is a very difficult colour for glass workers. The metals used to give pink are scarce and volatile, CIM have some nice clean pinks but I have never seen the sort of pink you would like anywhere. You can get some bright pinks by gold fuming, they tend towards the magenta end of pink and if you carry on with the fuming you get a gold "blush" which can be very attractive.
Just as an after thought if you are using a HH it can be difficult to get good clean pinks. Sorry if I am stating the obvious, if you find the colour you want I would be interested to know.

The darkest opaque pink i have come across in 104 that is properly "pink" is reichenbach opal raspberry  ;)

Ha!  I was just about to say the same.  In fact, the reichenbach pink palette is pretty good, their gold violet over raspberry gives a very good bright pink, that may be close to what you want?

i might be telling you something you already know, and if so, ignore me! But most pinks don't take well to lots of heat, you want to work them cooler/further out in the flame than other colours  ;)

It is a really beautiful pink - I would have suggested it before but it wasn't then available in the UK.

Bullseye has some really nice pinks, too.  They are COE 90.

I got some of the Kugler pink for Christmas but can't for the life of me get any vivid pink out of it! Any tips?

Thus far, I have only managed to get a very pretty pale pink, with streaks of a much brighter pink, and that's by treating it like a striking silver glass, with repeated deep cooling and striking sequences, and judicious use of brass.  I can see it has the capacity to be deeper in colour but can't get a constant result from it.

I have only got a pale pink from Kuglar too - lovely but not deep.  The best thing I have found is Bullseye frit and Rubino as encasing, followed by Reichenback opal raspberry.
