I bought some of this at the Flame off and have done a search for tips but could do with your help on using it.
I would like to encase it, but once my bead is covered in the mica, do you warm it in the flame or keep it out of the flame before encasing? can it just disapear or burn off?
Any help would be great :)
I've not been very adventurous with it, I like it on the surface and it can take quite a lot of heat. I'm sure Pegasus Bev wrote a quickie tute on how she encases it somewhere ???

i bought some at FO but not tried it yet - no excuses now.
Do post pics of the beads you make, I have just ordered some from warm glass and can't wait to have a go with it.

I tried using my stuff left over from card making but made the mistake of trying to roll a hot bead in it on a teaspoon and the whole lot melted! :o. I shall try sprinkling it on next time I dare use it!
Where do folk get 'proper' pixie dust/mica from anyhow?
Someone told me at Flame Off - can't remember who .... to put it onto damp kitchen paper and then roll the bead on it. Could have been Denise (Hotglass)?
I bought a wee baggie too at FO and haven't go round to using it yet.... "Interference Green" it's called, sounds interesting doesn't it?

I put it in a tablespoon and roll the bead in that - or I did, until I got glass jars. Best place to buy it is warm glass, but if there's a particular colour you'd like to try, pm me. I've probably got it ::)

I too bought some pixie dust at FO, it was a lovely purple lustre, but when I roll my bead in the powder its seems to burn off any of the purple colour and all I get on my bead is a funny looking gold powder instead :( am I doing something wrong?

Long before I had even thought about lampworking, I bought some pixie dusted beads from Cecilia from this forum, and she is also a FHF member on Etsy (Midgetgembeads)
I'm ashamed to say that I never used them. I couldn't bear to, they were so lovely and I could never have done them justice.
I would put a pic up with her permission.
She would be a good person to ask about it.
Cecilia puts the pixie dust on the surface, but in one of my Sally Carver dvd's, Sal encases the pixie dust for an all together different result.
Both are lovely
Just checked....Sal does the surface pixie dust in the dvd too.
It's worth buying
