I can get sandstone to reduce and it becomes a gorgeous gold, trouble is it only seems to reduce around the bead holes. Any ideas why?
You is just showing off cos you got some and we haven't :P
i have been looking for some too ...we will have to hold her to ransome ;)
I offered some to you Mrs Julie!
Sarah, I owe you some after you and Sam rescued me from those incompetents LOL
you hang on to it girl and make something yummy with it ...but if you want to swop a rod let me know what you would like and i will see you at FO :-*
i dont think they were too useless they got you in which was the important bit ;D..... but we were on the vimto not the champagne ;)
as to why you only get gold round your hole no idea ..... :o
I just found a rod in my stash ... so what does it look like once cooked ?? It looks like a rod of ivory to me ...
Aahh ... isn't that what Julie was testing with helios just recently ?? OOOOooo
yep ....and now it has disapeared from all sites selling .....that blinkin not so secret tester ::)
I taped a rod of ivory and opal yellow together, came out the same colour as sandstone.

I haven't got any either :( :(
Could be that whatever metal is being reduced is vaporised by the flame. Around the beadholes the mandrel is absorbing some of the heat and the glass is our of the direct flame.
I have lots of sandstone ::) ;D Tis luffly stuff, so it is ;)
Lucky old you, Sue.
Ahh get a load of her being all sandstone happy :D

Interesting - I must try that - also be interesting to see what it looks like mixed (you know what I mean - heat both rod ends jam together and squoosh/twist/mix)
I had a similar...well I shan't say problem as I quite liked the result with a blue Reichenbach colour- it was a barrel bead and reduced to a mirror shine but only at the ends!! Strange :P
Although I'm DYING to hear who the 'secret' tester is!! The Tuffnells one?! :o Because it was her (or him!!) who made me add goldstone ribbons to my order after seeing the example beads made with it!!! gorgeous!!! :o :o :o I'm dying in anticipation :P ;D xoxo
::) ::)
:-*
;)
I think Julie has something in her eye :D
Dean: was it iris blue? That one does go metallic if you reduce it - Reichenbach's ones called iris do that. (Though just to confuse everyone, iris orange strikes).
