I'm excited about opening my kiln in the morning. I discovered a really old batch of rubino oro which was so pale it was almost clear, but when struck it looked like a really deep cerise/magenta and I am really hoping that the beads will come out of the kiln as bright pink as they went in!!!

Lovely beads so far, especially the twistie beads! I love those colours :D

After some tips in another thread I decided to play around with effetre copper green and rubino oro. The copper green gets some lovely dark green stripes. Not the prettiest beads in a technical sense but I like the colour reactions.

(http://rangifer.se/exp_img/copper_rubino_tiger.jpg) (http://rangifer.se/exp_img/copper_rubino_nugget.jpg)

I also tried the combination copper green + dark ivory:

mmm...I love both of those colour combinations! some cool stuff happening in the rubino ones! that bit with the bubble makes me want to make a CG and RO striped murrini! but I probably will forget, and I think I'm down to my last bit of CG unless I find some hiding under something else *crosses fingers*

funnily enough, before Les posted her Turquoise over ivory ones, I'd been making some too, thinking it was time that colour combo came out of hiding again! haven't photographed yet though.

I love those rubino and copper green ones!

I've been doing some test beads:

(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5059/5515756737_4a24b091e5_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/5515756737/) (http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5180/5515756641_a42db579af_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/5515756641/) (http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5178/5516347188_8d52e72abe_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/5516347188/)

Copper green on Lauscha olive and violet, and red copper green on dark teal (aka steel blue). The red's obviously darker and I used very fine stringer for that so it doesn't show up so well, but it does the same kind of thing. My copper green's a batch that tends to go red in places on its own, so that's why we have some of that showing up.

I was playing with black, ivory and turq....but it came out way too dark!

I will have another go this weekend.

There are some great reactions on here so far and I am inspired to experiment :)

The copper green looks good, I think that might have to be on my next order!
Title: Re: MARCH 2011 - THEME OF THE MONTH CHALLENGE
Post by: helbels on March 14, 2011, 07:19:07 PM
Ok I'm not expert on colour reactions, so these aren't the most exciting in the world.

Here we have ivory base, with dots of copper green, then cranberry pink, then Grape Ape on the top... oh and there's some opal yellow in there too but that didn't do anything very reactive:

The reactions were so strong they kind of moved the dots around, as some of the glass got sucked in towards the middle. Which was kind of annoying as it makes my dots look wonky, whereas they weren't when I made them, honest!

It's not all 3 of these, but it's the best picture I have of my encased flower bead with bubbles.  I didn't expect this but the yellow ochre (I am officially in love with this colour now) has developed black edges and sort of a graduated colouring. The yellow petals (if you can call them petals) are on a base of white over periwinkle.   Not sure if this qualifies as colour reactions though?

I tried a gravity swirl bead with a white base and DH triton stripes.

It looked quite a nice colour, but as soon as it touched the marver the white went brown :o :o i really didnt expect that to happen.

It's a shame its a poo colour as I quite like the shape ;D

Shirl: Looks like your white fumed! I actually really like that - golden brown goes well with green  ;D

Cocoa and copper green, to go with the others.
(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5175/5551066913_c201fb6569_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/5551066913/) (http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5183/5551650334_c764e81a2f_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalorlo/5551650334/)

Left is a base of CiM pale plum unique-3 with dots of Lauscha olive, opal yellow and Lauscha violet. The plum makes separation lines. Then I put pulsar dots on the intersections.
Right bead had a lack of reaction... the lines are hades and I superheated them, but they completely refused to web. (I'll recheck that it was definitely hades, but the stringers were in the jar that only hades goes in...) Base is latte macchiato - it's pinker round the centre and yellower at the ends. The little dots are mermaid and have darker centres. One encased psyche murrini and one of my raku carrot murrini - both got really good colour.

I've decided that yellow is just a variation on ivory (bit darker and brighter than dark ivory) as it seems to react with the colours that ivory reacts with. Green and yellow twistie is a definite no no, the reaction took over everything! Spots are not too bad.....

To me it looks like a nice organic wood or sandstone colour :) Goes well with the green hues in the Triton. I would perhaps not use it on its own, but the combination looks nice.

There are some lovely beads in this month's challenge :)

Hope this one is OK to include .. it's an old bead, but I like the reaction ... it's less of a colour reaction though, and more of a metals reaction .... I love the way that the flower petals have developed these lines ... white flower dots over silver leaf and enamels ..

I am really into this reaction at the moment. This is Dirty Martini, Twilight Jungle and Muschio Verde. The Muschio normally starts off transparent and becomes semi opaque, but with this combination it doesn't.

It also reduces to that lovely silver shine and makes the DM do the same.

Here is an old bead of mine that I love because of the reactions.
It is effetra grey with dh terra frit really cooked into it and then tumbled. I love the way the original colour has been taken over almost completely by the "Halo?" of the reaction and the base colour only shows as thin lines. and the way the frit has separated out into rings of colours like rust.

Here's mine - an old bead made with rubino / white / purple. I love the spreading effect of rubino and the way the purple separates to form a darker inner spot.
The latest rod of rubino that I have been using just seems to burn and leave grey splodges.  >:( >:(

Lovely beads on here by the way, amazing colour combinations and reactions.

I finally managed to get some sort of photo of one of my favorite beads (long story about wrong laptop!), the bead isn't quite round, but I love the spread and webbing from the petrol green over the coral.  No intense black, just the petrol green.  Looks better in real life, but don't they all! :)
