Title basically says it all.
I know BHB can range from little to big but a friend has asked me to make her a few beads for her Argos BHB bracelet. I'm quite happy to do this although working with a mandrel again has been a bit if an adventure! What I'm worried about though is my beads looking out of place by being much larger or smaller than the ones she has.
I'm not going to get the chance to see her for a while so I can't ask her to show me the bracelet so I just wondered if your making a simple basic BHB what's the rough size of it?
Ooo how long is a piece of string, I have all mine on my light pull and they range from plain and simple and delicate to huge and decorated and gorgeously chunky
I don't think there is a standard, is there ?
I know exactly what your saying about there being a wide range of sizes but when you look at pictures of BHBs in groups they all seem to be of a similar size.
Do you mean the mass manufactured stuff Stacy? I would guess that they would all make to certain size specifics but have no idea what they would be, I'm guessing they would differ from brand to brand?
Not just the mass produced stuff, although they do seem to be very similar in size. I'm sure I've seen pictures of people own made bracelets and the beads are all of a similar size.
Maybe I'm over thinking it and when you get them all on a bracelet the beads kind of average out.
I would just hate to give her something for her to feel unhappy because they are not similar in size to her own ones. (which I believe were brought from Argos so would probably be very uniform)
I went into an argos recently (boyfriend wanted new earphones)
they had a stand of their beads on the counter, so my advice is go in, and have a nosey!
they looked fairly small, I'd say 16-18 mm (which is the usual target for bhbs if you read some of the threads on LE)
ETA I dont mean that last sentence in a mean way, its coming off as mean like 'you should really go and read those threads rather than bothering us' kinda thing, but thats not what I mean at all! the thread in my mind is a 130 page monster so I wouldn't actually recommend trying to read it!

eee 14mm is tiny! but yes, I do find most people like the little ones if they already have a bracelet

She wanted them to mix and match. I was surprised at how small they were. Suppose that is why the shop ones tend to have fairly simple designs on them.
I know this is a bit late but my Troll beads measure 14-15 mm and the pandora ones are a bit skinnier and measure 14.5 mm

15mm seems to be a fairly standard size which will "fit" Pandora and Troll - but I was in a Pandora shop the other day and they are selling some quite ghastly orange and clear beads which are a good 18mm in diameter (for lots of money).

Yes Pat that is the diameter of the bead.
The Pandora beads tend to be regular in size, but Troll beads vary in size more and have more interesting designs. The mandrel hole is smaller on the Troll beads as well. ( I have lots of Troll and a few Pandora, bought before I got into melting glass!)
