Title: effetre stringers number help
Post by: jammie on February 14, 2011, 02:27:15 PM
I need to buy some clear stringers, cant pull them thick enough for encasing and making swirls ,  anyone know if  the stringer on tufnells which has this number 591004, mean that this is the less than good clear as the good clear is marked in rods as 06, hope this makes sense?
thanks! x

Batches of Effetre do vary, but currently 004 is considered to be not as easy and clear to use as 006, which is a good batch at the moment. Hope that makes sense?

I've been using the CIM clear stringers Jean - I can send you some if you'd like to try them?

I'll second the CiM stringers, they are quite stiff in comparison to the Effetre but it doesn't scum so when you master it you'll be please with the result.

Or if you order some Laucha clear (soft) from Sean at Off Mandrel and ask him for thinner ones then I'm sure he'll sort it out for you (or you can ring him) I have rods from him that are 5-6mm
