Right, I have the nastiest colour in the entire world here. Tis called Baby Guu. I can't use it, it is naff, horrible, spits and is generally foul. So...what better than to have a competition with it!
I will send a stick to anyone wanting to enter - but bear in mind, it is boro!! The rules are as follows: (it is my competition so I can set the rules ;D ;D)
1. If I post you a stick, you have to give it a go
2. You have to post the results, however disastrous!
3. You cannot cover it completely with another colour, that's cheating!!
Who knows, between us maybe someone will come up with something genius for this stuff! :D :D
The prize? Something made by me, but a surprise ;) I do, however, promise it won't use baby guu. ;D ;D
Anyone up for giving this a go? ;D ;D
If it will melt on a minor I'll have a go ;D
Ok, I'm in. Since I'm just starting with boro everything I produce will be poo on a stick anyway, why not Guu on a stick?
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Ooh I would love to give it a go please!!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Excellent!
If you'd like to have a go, pm me your address, and I'll wing you some baby guu. :D
HAHA I'd love to have a go but my little hot head can't handle boro :P LMAO I can't wait to see how horrible this colour is- I love your description of it :P ;D
I will have a go, if you have enough. Is it yellow?

Totally up for this challenge ;D
Sounds like green to me.... go on then, if you have any left - let me at it.......;-)
Aha an NS experimental.........could be interesting :D
I'm afraid it is sort-of yellow... :D :D
pm me your addresses, folks! ;D
Could a bobcat with one oxy handle it? ;D
Sounds horrible i just have to try it ;D count me in ;)
Hey no fair, for us newbies, showing our guu next to the likes of Marcel, exercise in complete humiliation. Could you at least not try to make it look amazing ;D
Secretly, looking forward to seeing what all you clever people can do with it.
If you've got any left Em I'd love to give it a go too!!
You know how much I LOVE colours which give a challenge!!
Hi Stacy, how are you liking your Scorpion? Janet
Unless Marcel knows something I don't, he is on a level playing field making this one look nice :D :D
I should just add - I will pick a winner at random from the results shown in this thread. I'm afraid this means you will have to post the lovely results you get to stand a chance of winning ;D ;D
Oh this will be fun ;D ;D
Ah, I seem to have a bit of this, I tried it in implossions and wasn't greatly impressed with it, but I'll have another go and see what I can do too!
One quick question; the rod I have has areas of lighter colours streaked though it, is that usual compared to the rest of the rods? ???

All posted out today, apart from Stacy and Fi, who will have glass popped in the post tomorrow.
Good luck, folks! :D :D
And yes, Glenn - I am afraid so ;D ;D
Aaargh - cannot believe I missed this one!! Have fun, folks - looking forward to seeing the results (or not??) ;D ;D

Oooooh, that's fabulous, Emma!!! ;D ;D
Looks like I am first up!
Turquoise and Turbo cobalt blue which has come out near black, but mostly guu (and a huge bubble that got trapped :( >:(). I twisted the Guu to see what effect there would be as the rods aren't even in tone. I tried a second one, but had alot of problems with those clear striations on the rods starting to bubble.
That's gorgeous!! :O
Very nice. I am excited, just got my guu. Getting my hair done, so can't play yet, but soon.
Ohh - a Boro challenge! I'm in, will pm address if any is left.
My guu just arrived too, thankyou Emma. :-*
Nipping back for a read of the instructions now..........good start Glenn ;)
Got mine too, thanks Emma - and hoping the cooked colour is slightly less hideous than the rod ;D Following Tan now, although I have a sketch done already.

I've been guun mad today, hours at the torch, only made two things one button with twisties, but the guu doesn't show up too well. Second one a weird experiment with solid piece of guu in tubing and in twisties, had a really weird, but I thought cool shape. Don't get excited, dropped it, smashed, all guun. Picked up the broken pieces with some clear and made another shape, it is called "hide and guu seek". Back to the drawing board, but will post all my awful results soon. :D Please forgive the bad puns. :-[
Glenn, that is not hideous at all - it's rather nice, actually! :)
Janet, they were rather guud puns :D
Got my Guu today - and I would just like to say that I am a Boro.....Virgin - so please be gentle with me.
My first experiment is cooking in the kiln as I type - I quite liked the colour of Guu, as it happens. Also, I would be interested to know what colour the other piece of boro that you included in the parcel was too?
I do have some bits and pieces of boro that were gifted to me from a friend of mine - so might be tempted to have a more of an experiment tomorrow, obviously not covering the glorious Guu, as it would be considered cheating.

Here guus, 1st one is supposed to be an imploded button, the second ??? guud and ugly, sorry.

Didn't get chance to play today, snack run to son's school.
Still waiting for my glasses before I can play :'( I have nooo patience!
Received my glass today - looks guusome!! ;D (haven't tried melting it yet, though - was too busy drilling 'n stuff)
Received my glass today, thank you, but but will have to wait until the weekend to have a play. :(
What is the other rod in the package? It looks like guu, plus black maybe?
Yay, had time for a play earlier, three efforts in the kiln so now its just wait and see ;D
I think the other rod is a Momka short, sparkly thunder.
Glenn has very generously offered his pendant as an extra prize for this mini-competition so get melting! :)
Another guu from me, tried making a snail out of guu and clear twisties, but he escaped and met his demise in the garden during the photo shoot, rip, snaily.

Mine too! It does get a little better with melting :-\
Shame about the snail breaking, you got the colour working so well too!
I've got an implosion pendant and 3 beads made with this 'interesting' glass in the kiln....
Mine is the colour of chewed toffee, I love it ;D
Ok, here are my efforts, please excuse the very rubbish pics, kitchen lighting isn't flattering at the best of times :-\
Seahorse off mandrel, teeny tiny

BIG fish, his fins bubbled at the tips on mandrel
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s276/dybyk/DSCF10042.jpg)
And an off mandrel teddy bear, complete with buttocks that I forgot to take a snap of but with a belly button and holding a flower, his toes bubbled
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s276/dybyk/DSCF10022.jpg)
On one oxy I had no problems with this glass, as soon as I turned the second one on to give me oomph because the rods were thick thats when the bubbling started. I do really like this glass though
JKC, the snail looks gorgeous in the sunshine - too bad it decided to disintegrate!
Tan, I say, you seem to be a guud friend of guuy glass and an off mandrel goddess - love the seahorse in particularly!!
Thanks flower, they are a bit newbie naff, boro is a whole new beast to master :D
They are fab!! :D
You are clearly an off-mandrel goddess indeed, I like the teddy best, that colour really suits him :)
Looks as if working this glass cool gives it a nicer colour and makes it easier.
That should give me an advantage, then...I can only do cool ;D ;D

The boro gods are smiling at me, today is a good day ;D
You have managed to make the Guu look much less Guuey - they're all so cute, and looking at the rod I have here, I wouldn't have imagined cute at all ;D
Quotelooking at the rod I have here, I wouldn't have imagined cute at all
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
It really is a very interesting colour and you have all managed to produce some great work. Wait until you see Mavis.. outrageous what you can do to a decent rod of boro!
Just got to sort the camera out, at the moment it is only providing me with very blurred shots,(probably a good thing) the whole camera issue is getting right on my ti**....
Soon -
Love the snail and seahorse - and the other pendants, don't be too harsh on me !
Wow, Tan, boro goddess indeed, I love the seahorse and teddy has so much character :) :)
Mine has just arrived.
Who manufactures it?
NS I think.....a test batch from what I could gather after googling
Yes, Northstar. An Experimental batch picked up about 6 months ago. If you love it, ABR still have some ;D ;D But you won't find any working tips or hints... it is pretty much a WYSIWYG, but beyond that it is all up to you to play ;D ;D
so i got my BG this morning and after lot of mixing
in the flame to get the airbubbles out i have made
this little marble in real the color is more like a mustard yellow ;)
it is a easy color i like it.oh the green is reformulated dwarf green from origin.

I love the expression on Tan's teddy bear.
Crikey - got mine, haven't tried it yet.
Was hoping to get a couple of rods of boro from Martin before playing but the rate you lot are going, the comp will be over before I get chance!
Love the teddy -my favourite ;D
Marcel, that little marble is just wonderful - as is the photography!!
Right - I have figured out two things this afternoon: Baby Goo deserves its name....and two, melting boro on one oxycon takes a loooooong time.... I had an hour before picking up kids from school, and that was NOT very long. Without further ado, but with great embarrassment, here's a goo swizzlestick (please forgive smudgy window):
(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5254/5456771592_0230e71c6f_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/juliehb/5456771592/)

And, drumroll.......spot the "marble" (am properly embarrassed here :-[)
(http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5291/5456771508_ab23803c54_m.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/juliehb/5456771508/)
baby-goo-marble (http://www.flickr.com/photos/juliehb/5456771508/) by JulieHB (http://www.flickr.com/people/juliehb/), on Flickr
Yep, I know, better keep to soft glass..... I only have 4mm clear boro rods, and it was painful to watch three of them strung together with elastic trying to melt. By the time I had to pick up kids there was nothing to do but plonk a bit of colour on the back and run...
The colour is really nice, though....if you like mustard ;D
Nothing wrong with those babies madam, I would swizzle with that stick anytime ;D
Oooh, not looked here for a while! Love the seahorse & teddy, and I think Julie, your marble is very marbly :) Marcel, I just love your work!
QuoteI would swizzle with that stick anytime
..and I'd roll that marble! ;D Looking good (if, as you say, a little mustardy :D)
Thank you ladies....i know they are awful, and you are most generous!! ;D ;D
??? ???
Julie, they are not!!
;D ;D My son thinks they are "awesome" - as he did the most hideous free formed skull ever....in his words " it doesn't matter if he is a bit skewy-faced, mum, because he looks so happy!!!" :D :D
Don't worry, I'm not put off boro, and my self confidence has not suffered a blow - let's just say, the rules say I must show my guu work, and so I did ;) I hope I'll have another chance at playing before the challenge is all over!!
You'll realise the excellence of your boro work soon Julie - once I get the chance to load up the melted blob of bleurgh that I'm expecting to make. ;) Once I get the flippin glasses, which apparently are yet to be despatched! Are car mechanics big welding glasses any good to use in the meantime?
Probably. The clip-ons are either welders shades, so same stuff. Just depends on what shade.
Woo hoo - I have an enormous pair here, they ain't funky but they'll do the job ;D Although they're shade 5 I think, so I may be working a little dark :)
Yes, it may well be very dark! :D
Am feeling somewhat intimidated at posting my attempts....
I given up on trying to get a non blurred image from my camera, as I feel the blurred image actually enhances the subjects !
Need to purchase some clear rods and another oxy, but have to admit loved the challenge of trying this glass, I will attempt more when clear rods are obtained as I feel I should dilute the colour somewhat.
Not really doing it justice, but here you go - anything for a laugh and a challenge.....

It's not often I wander into the boro section.
oddly enough if I could work boro I probably would love this colour.
That flower is GORGEOUS
Has a boro sesh yesterdy. My Guu beads are finally out the kiln, afraid I struggled to find inspiration. All that kept coming to minds was bird poo. Naming was also similarily influenced:
Waves of Goo:
Dewey Goo (with a hint of lemonade)

Streatched Goo (bit of diaster)
After making all the above I was getting a little disheartened. Thanks also for the other stick of stripy boro. It lifted my spirits and resulted in the following:
Pulled into twisty, wrapped round randomly and encased:
clear blob, disc of colour and blobs of clear melted in.

Kerensky I am so sorry I missed your post completely, your flower is amazing and your critter and her story had me laughing out loud.
Stu I love the waves of Guu, its very Guud :D
I really like Goolag - and I'm not just saying that!!
I like the dewy goo and the twistie particularly - you've got it looking more like toffee than Guu :) I tried using my welding goggles, but it was like torching in the dark so have given it up as a bad job - back to waiting for this company to send out my specs ...
I managed on didys + some dark sunglasses. You can also get specsavers to knock you up a cheap pair of sunglasses, ask them to make them very dark. (They get well confused why anyone would want some close range sunglasses though.)
p.s. the last two beads are not goo.

Thank you for your lovely comments, all of you.
Rocks - urrrm - yes they are fab, but they are not mine, just a prop - they are beads that I had lying about and I used them to stage little old Mavis, funny though, because they are actually very close to the Guu colour, and I bought them because I really liked them...
I like using this glass but I wish that I had some clear to mix the colour a little - I would have been happier with the results, but I am amazed at the handling ability of the glass. I love glass sculpture and can see myself using boro for this in the future.
Also, just gimme the Torch Buddy, I want one too.... and what torch is your little buddy sitting on may I ask ? never see so many knobs ;-)

The GTT phantom is a tripple mix torch that means that the knobs in the centre
provide extra oxygen ;) my set up is that i have the centre fire (lynx) on two
5 lpm oxygen concentrators and the outterring on tanked oxygen that is controled with
a foot paddle so i can switch on or of the outerring (saves a lot of oxygen) ;)
You just had me salivating there Marcel
Very cool, Marcel.
Great guu-beads, Stu!!
Don't have much torch time now that monkey pigs are home for half term, but the other night I thought I'd give the guu another go...
Here's a Guu-bee (it was looking for a Guu-vine, but only found a Gerbera...) It was all going ok-ish until I decided to add a loop, after I'd successfully given it a long dainty tail (do insects have tails??) - hence the kink....

I'm having a go on thursday after I've bought myself a little bit of boro to go with the baby guu
I bet mine is guusome!
Guuuuu-d all these puns eh..
Love love love the bee like creature - including the tail - very cute.
You are all so guud, you are ;D ;D ;D And, Tan, laffing is guud for you!! :D :D
Ok, I am embarrassed to add my offerings to this thread of general lovely guu-iness but here are my sad attempts. Sorry about the lighting, it's a dark 4pm!

Dean, I'm training to be a teacher, I should qualify in July and then hope to teach in a special school. Just need to get through the heaps of evidence I need to show I can do it!
Nothing wrong with those babies, that first bead is so delish and the tree :o
Love the Great Barrier Reef coral.... (no, its not a tree Tan) ;D
Guuud God - Gimme that Fish and that there triffid Tree / Reef thing - now!
They are all lovely.
Ooh, I like the guuutreee, the bead is lovely and that guubee is fabulous, Julie! ;D ;D
Dean, ummmmm.....unfortunately...would you believe, I have no baby guu left to play with!
Ooops! ;D ;D ;D
I get to play tomorrow - can't wait.
Love the coral & the one with leaves(?) on it ;D
Love the tree too! ;D
I love the coral guu tree too and Julie - that bee is guugeous :)
How much fun is everybody having with this Guu !!
Here's mine. There was a bead as well but the guu is next to invisible.
Inexperience showing here, as two legs dropped off
(http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u211/df-glass/misc/24-2-11-1.jpg)
and a little teeny tiny marble - love making these
(http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u211/df-glass/misc/24-2-11-2.jpg)
Thanks for the opportunity Emma. Now, where do I get another oxycon ............. :D
ah, shame about the legs! looking good though, (or should that be guud? ;D ) Tiny marbles are a good idea on one oxy, how big are they?
Love that spider, he is fab!
8 legs or 6 legs its still a wonderful spider
I am now equipped - and am playing tomorrow. Oh, joy and happiness :D
thank you ;D
the marble is a bit bigger than a one penny piece in diameter - like I said, tiny :D
Great spider - just the way I like them - incapacitated.....and your marbles are great too.
I am waiting for some clear boro, I'm saving half a rod of Guu for another attempt at something a little more - well, shall we say desirable.... wide scope - plenty of options there then.
Here are my attempts:

I have to say that I quite like it. It's got some fantastic striations which are nice and when its paired with Triple Passion it creates a great black line which I think is really cool.
I pictured the cored bead with some others because it is quite plain on its own but as an accent bead I think it works really well with nice autumnal colours.
My overall feeling for this is that on its own its a bit blurrgg but if you use it with other colours then its a really nice accent colour!
Thanks for the play Emma!! :-*
As a colour I wouldn't have chosen it, but it does go very well with other colours.
Thosecored beads do have an autumnal look to them and the reaction in the top bead is great ;D
Right, sorry this has taken so long, I had to wait ages for my glasses, then struggled a bit on my Minor. This is my boro backscratcher (works fabulously well) with Guuey hair

Guuhead (http://www.flickr.com/photos/54880518@N08/5508732419/) by awrylemming (http://www.flickr.com/people/54880518@N08/), on Flickr
My son pointed out something very rude about the nose which I hadn't noticed, in retrospect perhaps I shouldn't have used pink! Needless to say, he doesn't get called Guuhead at home ;D
:DLOVE IT :D That backscratcher is such a genius idea and his face is so funny"
Stacy, yours looks way yellower than mine? I love that cored set tis very delish
I love door knob head :)
Oooh, he's fab! ;D
I did promise a small prize to go with this competition, and Glenn has very kindly donated a pendant too - so I will do a quick round up of all those who posted, draw a couple of names at random and let you know :)
Ok, well, Glenn and I did a random pick from all you brave people who took part in this, and I need to send a little something to Collette, while Rikki will be receiving something from Glenn. :) Will pm you! :)
Congratulations, Collette and Rikki. :)

Thank you so much, the pendant is fantastic and I am unable to spot the supposed air bubble that makes it less than wonderful but am not complaining because the marble is even more wonderful; I love them both!! You are amazing!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
