Title: Iris gold yellow rods
Post by: Shirl on February 08, 2011, 04:01:47 PM
I bought this thinking it would be like the frit but it doesnt seem to want to play the same.

Does anyone have any of this colour, and what can I make with it? Any ideas will be welcome ;D

Do they reduce? you could maybe put shiny dots on things with them?! x

I dont think they reduce.

Perhaps we should have a competion to see who can get the best from this lovely glass ;D ;) ;D who know there might be an amazing discovery just waiting to be released.

I think I might experiment and choose some glass to go with it with my eyes closed.

make an ivory olive shaped bead, melt the end of the iris gold ( about the size of a pea) get it good and hot.

Touch one side of the ivory olive, and spin yourself a 'thread' of the iris gold all over the olive.

Melt in very slowly and lightly, cool, then waft through a slightly reducing flame.

You should see some golden lines coming through, and can encase if you want.

I'll make an example tomorrow, and post a pikkie, if I get home from work in time.  IF!

One cool tip already.

Have you run a search on LE?

I think I would turn it into frit too.  But I would heat and dunk it to make frit rather than crush it manually.

I have some of this colour too, can't remember what I did with it but I have a bundle tucked away. I'd be interested to see what people come up with this colour in rod form.

Good luck  ;)

I don't think that the 104 works anywhere near the same as the old 96 version! I know when I tried the 104 I couldn't get a thing out of it!

And it won't work any better as frit!

I did make some frit with it when I first bought it, but had no good results from it.

I have tried making an ivory bead, its in the bubbles cooling, I also tried it with blackcurrant and silver plum, will have to see the results later
