Title: Another pink question....!
Post by: Dee Dee on January 11, 2011, 09:55:10 PM
I have been trying to make some transparent pink beads using the pale Effetre Pink Transparent - it's driving me nuts!

Some turn out pale pink and some turn out pale peach!  And the frustrating thing is that when I want pink I get peach and when I want peach I get pink!

Is there something specific I need to be doing to get the colour I want??

possibly you need to strike it? im not 100% certain, just going on the fact that rubino oro and i think the majority of the other transparent pinks like to be struck, i'd say its worth a try anyway, you wont ruin the glass by trying to strike it!

Are you getting the different results from different rods? or within the same rod?
My last batch from flamekissedglass here in the states was a 1/4 kilo and if you look at the end of the rod some appeared more peach and others that pale pink color- the rods however looked so similar you would not have noticed but you noticed once the beads were made. So check the ends of the rods you may have something similar to what I had. And no transparent pink (the reg ole effetre) was not a striking color.

Not totally sure if they are from the same rods - definitely the same batch though.

Attached piccie of my dilemma -

The beads on the left (not etched) I made yesterday - all peach (they were made from the rod on the left also) - the two on the right are both pink.  And I did a set a while ago that all came out pink!  The middle two seem to be a shade between the two.

Weird. Is it 068 pale rose? It probably doesn't help much, but 067 rose quartz has seemed consistent when I've used it.

It is 068 Heather - looks like I must order 067 next time!

Thanks everyone, I think it's most likely a flame chemistry thing - but I am not sure what I do different each time!

I have a very vague recollection that 068 might do faux boro reactions with silver-rich glass. Might be worth a try if it won't behave as pink!

I was just talking to Deanne (Rocky) last night - and I find with certain glass, if I'm making a set I do tend to make them all in one session so that the flame chemistry is the same etc  - doesn't help if you're trying to re-create a set.

For a pinky pink, the rose or dark rose is more pink, or the effetre rose quartz is nice but can be pale.

I will have to purchase a few more pinks and see what I get.  I have some Rose Quartz, but think it's a CIM one, and that's more opalino-y I think!

This is a shade I have struggled with too.   Hope you sort it. - Incidentally - love the shape of those heart beads - which press do you use?

looking at your beads (which are lovely btw) they all have SIS on them so I was wondering if the silver in that was fuming the pink glass to varying degrees? Have you tried making them without the SIS to rule this out??

Hi

the CIM Rose Quarts is opalino, and the effetre is clear, very pale

the effetre rose quartz is the one on the far left - it is hard to photograph, but this gives you an idea! x

WOW Trudi that is a great colour reference!!! and I just grabbed the latest batch of my reg pink from effetre and they are all peachy toned on the ends :( the older ones I have from Reenie (flamekissed) are the last of the pinker toned ones :(
And yes silver will turn this one a more golden peach color!

Do you know, I can't remember - it's a long thin one without guides (so it needs a base) and it's got ridges on the back - maybe someone else who has one might know  (they don't call me Goldfish for nothing ;D )!

That's a really good point Helen - I didn't think of that - I will try and see what happens! Thanks! ;D

I know the one, Mags did them, she only did a fewof them. She also did the multi tool!!!
I believe Lush has one (no surprise there). The Bavarian ones are very similar though!

Hi,

Dont know if this helps but I find I always have to strike the pinks to get them pink.
It also helps not to get them too hot and melty when shaping the bead.
