Hi All,
I have seen the most amazingly stunning rose and other flower murrini recently (for example Christina's) and I'd love to make them or something like them. I can work out some of the basics of making these types of murrini, but does anyone recommend any good tutorials for the more intricate flowers? I feel a Quest coming on!

Manda has a couple of the tonbo dama books for sale, I'm sure she would tell you if the techniques described in there would be what you want,
though I know she will be very busy at the moment preparing for the contemporary craft fair.

Thanks all! I actually have that Tonbodama book, but haven't had much opportunity to look right through it yet. I need to go back to it now then, that gives me something to do tonight....if the kids leave me alone long enough ;)

been drooling over the sold etsy items because I cant buy those!
hmmm...wonders if manda would bring me a copy of that book to the contemporary craft fair
although can't pull any murrini on my own more than a teeny simple one, mine tend to get big and I need longer arms!

Those Japanese bead makers are really something else aren't they...I'd love to sit and watch a master Japanese bead maker for a day. Preferably whilst they make beads and with their permission though otherwise that would be just too odd ;)

I did make some last night with an old rose murrini cane I pulled (bought some pieces from anouk I think it was, thought, thats way too good and expensive to use and ruin, I'll practice first!, so I made something a little bit like it, having just learnt to make a spiral murrini of which there is a free tut somewhere, oh, there are links on one of the LE monthly challenges in the game room, anyway, made something a bit like it to practice with, in red, however it is orange when its that small, also now I feel confident in using it I have lost the little baggie of super special ones!)
I didnt have the energy to pull another cane, though I wanted to, and I couldnt decide what colour, I was thinking pink, but I only have baby pink, not light pink...hmmm cheaper colours for practice me thinks!
yes, it would be a bit boring just watching them sit in their office until they could go and make beads!
I was reading some of the interviews with her, she says she has 2 kilns, one is just for keepng murrini bits warm! where the flip would I put that on my desk? I am guessing though, that because they need keeping warm, that they are big, does this mean that they pull relatively short, very fat murrini canes? (this is the odd way my brain works, especially when I went to bed at 1.30 and got woken up at 7.45 by the nice postman who thinks hes being helpful bringing the special delivery parcel then rather than on his way back at 11ish, just got back to sleep for the boyfriend to ring and say, 'I'll be over in half an hour' now waiting for the shower to be free cause half an hour is now only 15 mins!)

Christina, that's really lovely...murrini making is obviously an artform in itself. I figured it may be made of several pieces, after reading the Tonbo Dama book last night it's a bit like the cherry blossom murrini, but more subtle on the colours.
This is a really interesting subject ;D
that would be nice...until I woke up and found I'd turned into a lobster! I only have to wave an arm or leg in the sun for a few minutes to burn!
I have seen hotplates (and even sandwich toasters! not sure how safe/good that would be, I guess its got a heated top as well as a bottom...) used for keeping elements like birds wings warm.(at least I assume that's what the sandwich toaster was for...I guess it could have been for snacks!!)

I still don't have enough room on my desk for that! I think stuff would just have to go on the shelf above my kiln (two of those metal mesh a4 paper intray type things if you wanted to know! mostly used for drying washed frit)
I have a lovely pink kiln from Kilncare and it gets lovely and toasty on the top after a bit. Just right for warming stuff :)
