Title: Double Helix recommendations...
Post by: Phoenix* on May 17, 2010, 06:13:06 PM
I'm dithering....help me please!!!!

Should I get a couple of the mixed packs from tuffnells.... or should I pick a couple of colours?

I've tried pandora (which I really like) and I had a little play with some Elektra which is nice too.

I still have some original Terra so not sure I need to do Terra 2 just yet...

which ones do you all really like??

ok aurae and triton are a must, as is ekho (absolutley wonderful over white). I have some luna 2 as well, but unless you're great with strikers give that a miss. ooo and don't forget psyche! its divine! and clio!!

It's probably cheaper (even with customs etc) to get it direct from double helix if your planning on getting 1/4lbs of each. Pysche on double helix website is only $15 per 1/4lb.

http://www.doublehelixglassworks.com/glassrods-1.aspx

and while you're at it check out their seconds page. they are great quality and i always get some from there.

i'm sure if you advertise it on here people will be willing to do a joint order. i did a couple a few months back.

 :o :o :o ohhh too much choice!!

Would love to order from double helix at some point but right now am financially challenged!!

so in a pinch what are the two best colours?? or should I get one fantastic colour and a mix  :-\ or just 2 mixes...  ???

i think a mix is a great place to start, that way you can judge which colours you get on with before getting a whole 1/4
personally i dont think you can go wrong with triton, aurae or ekho
it may be worth ringing Martin and asking if he will put you together a mix of some of the ones you want to try  :)

i'm pretty sure martin will do you a mixed bundle of your choosing, as would sean at off mandrel (he's lovely like that!).

The ones  you can't live without would be: aurae, clio, ekho, and triton. they are very easy to use. I would go for 2 of each. x

Triton adores the hothead and so does aurae, not tried psyche yet, dont know why but that one still scares me a little  ;D

ooo don't be scared of it! it is divine! it reduces to a lovely purple sheen but if you encase it you get glorious colours!

gemma try spot encasing. as in just dob a blob of clear on a dot of reduced triton/pysche/aurae, even do the same with streaks.

also have a look at these tutorials by laura sparling, totally changed how i encase (and if you can get one of corina's magic wand thingys get one, i swear by mine for encasing!)

And in all honesty, Reichenbach Multicolour Dark beats all the DH strikers IMHO and is about 1/4 of the price!!!

I've just been playing with Multcolour. What's the secret to getting that wonderful colour? I thought I knew what to do but mine does not go very blue and there are definite hints of poo  :(

What about some silver glass stringers to play with from Knatty dreadz, they have free postage just now if you friend them on facebook, Trudi posted about this in another thread, think they also have some multicolour dark stringers too.

They are - I really cooked the silver brown before encasing, and the different colours are from how hot you get the encasing - going darker with more heat.

Clear, then silver brown very lightly reduced then clear - yummy!  Really ethereal.
Silver brown over black lightly reduced and encased in clear = deep blue.
SB over ivory, lightly reduced then clear - lovely yellow like cats eyes.
SB over pink lady, reduced and encased = lovely warm reddish pink from the centre then sexy silvery colours over the top.

Cheap glass, but so much fun.

Def Reichenbach dark Multi - superb purples are really easy to get.  No one has mentioned Gaia, I recently bought a new batch and it seems to be behaving better than my first lot - I don't think there is anything which goes such a beautiful lustery greeny blue. (Its not keen on being encased though)
