Hi All
Well I think the Bead Cube is going to be the kiln for me, given my minisicule space. Question though: How much clearance space do you need to leave round it?
Thanks
Helen.
sit on suitable non flamable surface away from anything flamable with about 30 cm clearence all round and make sure controller and cables clear from cube...controller unit about 30 cm from cube ....HTH ;D
Yep, good advice Sarah.
30 cm is about right. However, it depends what the surfaces or items are that you are getting clearance from. The Bead Cube is quite unusual in kiln terms as it is so minimalistic in it's technology (bugger all in it :o) that the kiln and it's electrics can actually run at unusually hot temperatures.
Usually clearance distances are for the purpose of both safety and kiln care (excuse the pun).
If you are talking nonflammable walls or surfaces then you could go down to merely a few inches of clearance.
The Bead Cube does run quite warm but it is small and it's heat dissipates quite quickly as the distance from the kiln increases. We go for the 30cm advice as it then covers all eventualities. Realistically there is no reason that the Bead Cube needs anymore clearance than any other bench top kiln.
Sarah is correct with regards to the flexes and the controller. Keep the controller cool I say.
However, I have seen some Bead Cubes in VERY cramped positions indeed, so I think it's very much a case of keep flammables clear and apply a bit of common sense.
I confess. Mine has less than six inches on two sides - but it's on a metal topped table with a solid brick wall behind it. I keep the controller well clear though.
I've never found it too hot for comfort either :)
Thank you for the very helpful responses everyone - sounds like the Bead Cube will be the one for me :) Just need to wait for next pay day now :)
Why not wait for another payday and treat yourself to a maxi?

Having seen my little workspace Frederick, I think you might see why the Bead Cube appeals! I have nowhere to put anything :-( I am only in a 1 bed flat, so space is a nightmare.
I love my little cube!
