Title: Mapp Pro & Dirty Colours
Post by: Andy on September 25, 2009, 05:30:54 PM
Hi All,

I've been buying my gas from a plumbers shop about 15 miles away, normal mapp gas £10 a can. I just found a place right next to me that sells mapp pro, so I got myself a canister. I seem to be having two issues with it :

1. It doesnt last as long as normal mapp even though the can is the same size

2. My colours are coming out pretty dirty, you know brown in my greens, grey in my ivories????

Should I not be using this kinda gas or is this a one off dud can or something. I never had any probelms with dirty colours on normal mapp.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have the same problems Andy, as far as I'm aware Mapp gas turned into Mapp Pro at the beginning of the year sometime as the production changed.  I've found most of the problem colours I now have to work a little cooler to avoid the mud, but some of my students seem to love the brown and green combo for their beads!

Whereabouts are you in the Burgh as I'm in Craigmillar and always have Mapp Pro cylinders in stock at the studio if it's closer than the plumbers place, can do them a wee bit cheaper too  ;)

My mum stay's in Leith, near ocean terminal.  Let me know if you ever need any.

By cooler, yes farther away from the hottest part of the flame and also keep moving it so that no one part gets too scorched.

So I tried working farther out, cooler, still getting mudy colours, it seems to be affecting all my colours?  I'm working pretty far out the glass is taking ages to gather.

Any other ideas??
