Title: Best glass for encasing??
Post by: TillyBean on September 21, 2009, 08:54:05 PM
Hi all,

I have been using Effetre Clear so far to encase, however was wondering if there is another glass more suitable? - I haven't had any particular problem with Effetre but seem to remember reading somewhere that there is a better clear glass  :-\

Any advice & recommendations very MUCH appreciated!

Thanks
Gail

Hello Gail

There's a recent thread on here somewhere about encasing.
I've tried Lauscha - which is more expensive than effetre but people love, Effetre 004 and Effetre 006.  So far I've had most luck with Effetre 004 but I seem to get a sooty finish to my beads if I have my propane turned right up.

I'm on a HotHead on bulk fuel.

I really like the reichenbach crystal, only it is a bit stiffer than effetre.. that might be why it doesn't bubble. It might be too stiff for a hot head.

I'm on a Bobcat and have found the "new" soft Lauscha clear to be superb - melts just like butter and even I've done a decent encasing job - several times on the trot!!!
Amazing for me ;D
I'm even making beads now just so I can encase them - how sad is that?
I know it's expensive, but I think it's worth it - why spend time on a bead to risk a 50/50 shot on the clear? I feel that now the odds are slightly stacked in my favour and believe me, I need all the help I can get :D
