My mum has some lovely (real) black pearl earrings. She has asked me to make her a necklace to go with them for her birthday.
I said that I (obviously) couldn't make her real black pearls, not being an oyster myself, but I would do my best to make something to go with them. The earrings are a lovely dark grey with a pearlised finish.
Can anyone suggest a starting point please.
As a newbie I haven't enough experience of the attributes of the various types of glass to know where to begin.
I assume I will have to use a silver glass over a base bead of another colour. I have a nice dark steel grey transparent effetre, which I think might be nice for spacers, and perhaps a thin layer of something else on top for the main beads???
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Reichenbach blac reduces to a lovely shine, I can send you a rod to try if you like?

Not the best photo, but might help? I love this glass BTW!
I am going to make some silvered shards with the last of the black pearl glass some time this week - so PM me your address and I'll send you some to try if you'd like?
This was how it looked on antique clear with some silvered ivory.

I have some black pearl earrings and necklace and I think dark silver plum is what you want - you can get some shards from Jolene :)
Just posting two roses - the first is Dark Silver Plum:

.......hope it's useful :) And had to laugh at you not being an oyster :)
I have some dark silver plum, but I haven't succeeded in make it look silvery yet.
It just looks a bit like dark plum (Doh!)
What do I need to do?
Thanks for the offers and suggestions.
I have pm'd.
Many thanks, everybody is so kind and generous on this forum.
