Could anyone tell me how to get stripes from frit? (hope this makes sense)

Encase it? I have made a few BHBs this week clear base with orage frit then encased in clear and they go stripey like.

I make "streaky" beads using a pale transparent rod and dipping it several times in frit, melting-in the frit only a bit, then winding the glass on to the mandrel. It sort of stretches the frit as you wind on. It's specially quick because when your frit runs out you can carry on and encase using the same rod that's already hot if you want. I use it for the base for a flower bead too.
I'm not sure it's what you're after though, not sure if you'd call it stripes exactly!
Or if you put your frit into stripes on your marver, it will be in stripes on the bead :)

Or, you can just roll your bead in the frit then pull it around the bead using a clear stringer, it gives you a bit more control about where your lines go.
I can't help on the Val Cox book but I hear its supposed to be very good
ooh yes, or you could let the fritted bead droop and roll it round the mandrel to stretch the frit into streaks.
