My oxycon has conked out, the red light comes on after 5 mins and it just stops.
Any ideas? I can not seem to get hold of Martin Tufnell.
Thanks.
How long have you had it and has it been fine up to now on the same settings? Maybe try turning the flow down a little and see if it still trips.
Kath
bugger chap.....
once it conks it is better to get it to martin... one of the things to do if the ocmpressor locks up is to drop it from a few inches up, but this sounds like the cycling system is boogered and not delivering oxygen?...
keep trying martin - he is definitely the guy to get it sorted!... so sorry to hear that though - as i can imagine how excited you are to get torching :-(...
::)
Martin replaced mine no bother after it conked. It's just a pain waiting for the new one!
Yep, Martin is top totty, Keep trying I think they are still between workshops

Only got it last thursday! I'll keep tyring martin.
Try picking it up and dropping it from about 4 inches or so ! I did it onto concrete .It worked for me the compressor does not like moving and sometimes needs a bitof a kick . Mine did exactly that when ithad been delivered.
mine seems to do that too, although it does seem to get going on the 3rd go...I was assuming that as its cold in the shed it just needs lots of warming up as once it is going it seems fine...allthough the middle light is on alot of the time!

ok i'll try that mine got going on the third go today but the light was on amber not gree, i'm really not sure how critical that is as the flame is fine!
thanks, alice.
How cold are you guys keeping them? They are designed for indoor use, I've heard they don't like cold or damp. Might be better to keep them indoors and wheel them out to use them if you work in a shed.
oooh I don't know...Its not damp in the shed, but it does get chilly out there...haha, when my husband built the shed it was the agreement that all my jewellery making stuff went out there as he was sick of it...I don't think he was bargaining on having a bit of ex-hospital equipment sitting by the back door ;D
Hi
These things just don't like the cold. Sounds a bit daft but when I've finished beading I always put a couple of old blankets round my oxycon and it works ok next time. I literally put it to bed - aw!!
I'll have to try that one...thank you ;D

I was going to suggest wrapping it up!

awwwwwwwwwwwwwww ;)
Oh no...i hope to god that this isnt a common problem, ive only had mine a week :-\ im to scared to switch it on now ::)
Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and reach for the switch ;D ;D ;D ;D
I've heard also that you should have a minimum running time of about an hour when you get going - they don't like to be switched off every 10 or 15 minutes (not sure who does that, but I suppose if you wanted to knock out a quick bead you might)... Is that true or urban myth..?!
i droped it! it seems to be running on amber now! Martin says it should be fine.
so if mine conks out i will know to throw it across the room and it will be fine :D
I'll have to remember that if mine plays up - bounce it incredible hulk stylie around the room. ;D It turned up today and is working fine!! Hurray!! Just got to wait for the torch now....dead excited!!! ;D ;D ;D

Yay! Congrats Helen - you won't look back! I have to say my Arthur (you know me - they have to have names) has settled in very well & I have told him that if he misbehaves he'll be dropped on his heels. That scared him!
wooohoooo, how exciting HP, bet you can't wait ;D
all torches shipped yesterday first glass - watch out for you postie today - and pics PICS PICS!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Wahey! Thanks Q - I'll be stalking the postie for the next few days then....can you tell I'm excited!! ;D ...oooo I could crush a grape! ....oh eck - showing my age again! ::)
Everything's set up for it's arrival - new table, kiln and oxycon all expectant, it's sooooo good to finally have a permanent spot set up. I've been on an ickle fold down table in the bathroom for the last 12 months, and I had to set everything up before a session, and put it all away again after....right royal pain!!!
And thanks Sarah and Caroline - I'm sure he'll be getting a name too when he arrives - and some boundaries! LOL! None of this going out all night with his friends malarcky - I want him to be there 24-7 at my beck and call! ROFLMAO!!! ;D

Ohh what torch are you getting HP ?
My shed is just about done so i need to get my bits ordered, unfortuantly my shed has cost me a bit more than i was hoping and so i cant get my kiln straight away :( bit more saving required now !
I went for the Betta - thought I might as well take the plunge. I know - it's not exactly the cheapest hobby/business to get into is it? But it's definitely been the most fun. ;D We need to see pics of your shed when it's all set up too. :D
Did you get a new torch in the end Nicky?
HP x
my shed did that too...all the little bits you need to make it usable all add up!
Your right Vicki, ive spent far too much on it already and ive still got to put flooring down and all the little finishing bits - aggghh
I want a mini cc HP as thats what i learned on, trying to get mine from the states so just working out whos cheapest and i have got to order my oxycon from Martin. I think the sooner i do that the less risk of me spending that money as well hehehe !
Ooo fab - that was another torch I was looking at too. I hope you get one sorted Nicky. And get the oxycon bought, reckon you're right, if you get the stuff you 'have' to get first - the rest will follow......eventually. ;D
I think glass sheds were designed to eat money Vicki...we should just plaster the walls with fivers and have done with it! LOL! ;D
HP x
& I just got a telling off from my husband cos hes just tidied my sons room 'cos I left a mess where the self unit unit used to be, but is now in my shed....I can't have glass on the florr can I...doh!...men ;D
hehehe, men just don't understand
no they do not! I'm getting nothing but hassel at the moment, I've just stoped talking to him or listening! the only problem is my sheds arriving tomorrow and i need him to help put it up!!!! Men! can't live with them can't live with out them!
