Title: How to keep my green green?
Post by: Rosenquartz on April 23, 2009, 08:49:36 PM
I bought some Eff grass green 591216 at flame off. I've only made one small bead from it and that was covered in Beady Sam's sugar frit and a lot of copper came to the surface. I've had streaks of copper with another green I had. Sometimes it looks okay but I'd rather have control over when the copper comes out to play and when the glass stays green. Could anyone give me any tips? I'm on a HotHead btw, which seems to be reducing everything at the moment. I think it may need a clean.

TIA
Neil

Worth giving it a clean - screw off the top and give it a good shake! Sometimes insects go inside and die and then you end up cremating them onto the bead which makes the flame burn strangely. Also try keeping at the upper end of the blue tip in the middle of the flame ("the sweet point") where propane and oxygen are more in harmony!

I had the same problem with turquoise a while back and found that if I slowed down the melting in I got less streaks of red.  Still happens every now and again when i get a bit eager!

I'm on a HH too, mine deffo needs a clean, it lives on a hook outside my torch room window!
