I have just bought a little of both and the price difference between the two is huge. Both look gorgeous and I wondered if any extra effects or stronger reactions can be teased out of the Cranberry Pink over the Rubino which justifies the price.
Which of the two do you guys like working with best?

I much prefer the CIM. But there are arguments for and against both!
The CIM is a more intense colour, does not reduce as easily and therefore avoids the "black" marks and muckiness associated with the effetre. However, it does not give quite the same amount of "spreading" as the effetre does. I have just got some of the CIM odd colour pale cranberry from Off Mandrel and am finding that that spreads even less - with some colours remaining "in tact" under or over it.

Interesting, thanks Kaz ;D
I can't get the CIM cranberry to reduce to metallic. It's just not as exciting as Rubino Oro. Much prefer Rubino - despite it's unpredictability.
I've just made a few spacer kebabs out of Cranberry to start with and have managed to burn most of the pink out of most them into an unattractive smeary yellow. It looks so fab in the stick. Boo.
Whereas with Rubino I can hardly stop it reducing to lovely shiney gold...
I'm going to have to have another go with rubino with my new torch and see if I can do any better with it. I usually manage to make it turn grey with black spots in!!!
Both definitely have their uses. If I'm making a bead that I want to be predominantly bright pink I use Cranberry. If I'm making a bead that is swirled (an opaque heated up with another glass 'pulled' through it repeatedly to get that very fine stripey effect) I use Rubino. I also find Cranberry to be a bit darker and usually layer it over white if I'm using it as the base colour. Rubino is a lot more fussy for me. I only use Cranberry for dots, never Rubino.. although some people swear by it! I just can't make it strike when it's little dots.
I second the grey, Kaz. Rubino can be a real pain!

rubino every time!! have loads of cranberry and i do like it but something about rubino....
I hope I'm not putting a spanner in the works here...and I know that it's a little off theme...but I prefer Reichenbach Gold Violet to Rubino. Beautiful colour and I don't get the whisps of smokey grey which I get with Rubino if I'm careless. And it's harder to boil. I have had arguments with other beadmakers that the Gold Violet I've used on my beads HAS to be Rubino instead, and they won't believe me when I tell 'em.
I haven't tried the spreading thing with it though. Something else to do this weekend.
I haven't tried the Cranberry either. I wonder if Martin sells it by the stick?
Off Mandrel sell it by the stick and also have the new paler cranberry odd lot.

Thanks Kaz, they also sell some tempting Tag. It has been an expensive couple of months!
Cranberry, because it doesn't go that nasty browny purple when it's annealed! I know I probably just had a dodgy batch of rubino before, but unfortunately it has put me off using it again.
