Title: CIM clear
Post by: Shadowdarner on February 15, 2009, 12:17:32 PM
I've just started playing with CIM but have found the clear to be very nice to work with.  Does anyone else have experience with this glass?  I didn't work it too hot though...I only had one rod so I 'played nice' with it... :)

Be good to know if it burns when worked hot because I am having murders with my effetre clear it is pants!  I will be using it as a base for some other beads I think instead of encasing.

Sorry to hog but what is the best clear at the moment?

The latest Laucha is nice...makes silver foil look goldish though and still hates siver glass as a rule.

I have some vetro clear but it is a bit scratched up and so scums easiy, I use it as punty

I just bought some vetro clear to try out - nice and soft so it melts easy - but you do need to keep nipping off the ends to stop the scumming - but it's a lot less expensive and easy to work with.
I also like the diamond clear effetre which works well with silver glass - where lauscha cracks!

I have just bought a rod of CIM to try  - as kryptonite seems to crack with others, but I haven't tried it yet!

I have been pretty happy with the effetre crystal clear....you still have to be careful not to heat it too much but it is an improvement over the old effetre clear.

Vetro clear does seem to scum up easily.  It's funny because initially the vetro seemed to work well but I think when making larger beads where you need a lot of clear there are still problems with the Vetro.

Lausha is still the 'best' but makes me nervous cause I've had some real cracking problems!!

It seems that I can work the CIM clear a bit hotter than the new effetre clear so that is a real plus...so far  :)

Anyone had other experiences?

I have had problems with the CIM clear scumming up, just like Vetrofond and the old effetre - I like working hot!  So I also prefer to use Lauscha, or Northstar Precision diamond clear (when working with silver rich glass).  I haven't tried the new effetre clear though to compare them with.

I've heard of a glass called Flex.  Does anyone have any experience with it?  I've not used it and can't find any reference to it on this forum so far.

Haven't heard of flex.

There is a new clear by Double Helix called 'Aether'. From what I've heard it's pretty good.

Not come across either of those - interesting!

I think Aether has been on a fairly limited release so far. There is word of it on LE, but DH seem to have sold out.
