Aha, I found something! From Sundance Glass:

"You can get the smaller 1/4" hose listed above on these large inlet fittings with a bit of effort. A trick is to immerse the end of the hose in very hot water to soften the end."

They're talking about fittings that they otherwise sell 3/8" hose for. Ok, I'm a lot happier now. I did email another gas place to ask, but if they don't say anything, I think I'll go ahead and get 8mm ones. After I've made things for Christmas, though!

From the piccies it looks like the ones Martin has might be imported Western Enterprises QDB20 releases. Maybe. Which are 1/4" and would explain the price. Or wait, maybe not QDB20, since those still have B fittings?
