For those that are not on facebook or did not see my attempts at boro sculpture:-
I decided to practice boro sculpting as I would like to make a fairy for a forthcoming fair where we are supporting a local charity, and other crafters are making Fairies for sale to raise money.
This is my prototype Ice Fairy complete with spikey hair !!
I was not happy with the original picture results as you could not see the definition of the figure very well, so I decided to use my sandblaster and  "etch" her??  I also masked off her wings with some vinyl snowflakes cut out on a craft machine.
So here are the before and after pics

Lots more practice needed, but I am quite happy with the first efforts!

Thanks Sal, yes I much prefer her "frosted", it gives her more substance if you know what I mean!

That's fantastic Bob - you must be thrilled to bits. I also love the effect of the sandblasting.

Aren't you clever!!

Nick

Great job, well done. You must be very pleased. The sandblasting is a great effect.

Rascal

Blimey, she is brilliant, well done.

Steampunkglass

Fabulous! I think the sandblasted looks better too, helps show the detail more and masking off areas with stickers like that is a really nice touch.

Thanks for all your great comments!
I have just got this Fairy warrior out of the kiln, and I may sandblast her as well, but here she is in clear!! She has dichro encased wings!!

You're on a roll Bob, they both look great. I think the sandblasting really brings out the contours of the figures. You might be interested in my friend Caroline Weidman's Facebook picture at https://www.facebook.com/caroline.weidman Her figures are in soft glass and made following a similar procedure to that demondstrated by Lucio Bubacco at Flame Off. Her studio, Glass from the Past is well worth a visit. I go every fortnight on a Wednesday afternoon.

Both really beautiful but I especially love the wintery frosted fairy she is just lovely !
