I am totally in the dark about boro work but i was wondering whether i can use Thompson enamels with Boro (clear)  this is just the usual 104 Thompson stuff i'm talking about? Any advice much appreciated :)

I'm never used them so can't give any personal recommendations but this was recently asked on LE and the answer given was this:

Quote from: CosmoDoesn't work.  The COE is too different.

However, you can use borosilicate powders and get just about the same results.

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't use Thompson enamels on anything other than 104 coe glass.  I have used some of the Northstar boro powders with other boros and particularly liked their green exotic and blue exotic - gives lovely 'highlights' when encased.

I've got a couple of the Northstar powders and like them a lot for backing things, as well as the effects they give - the finer GA frits and the size 0 Momka frit from eplanet glass aren't quite as powdery but still really nice for effects.

I did try some Thompson enamels when I starteed boro, I didn't have much colour so thought it might be a cheap way of adding to them. I mixed some in, and pulled a stringer out. The results were not good at all! Imagine one of those hair adverts showing split ends magnified, with it running all the way up the length of it. It held together for another day or so, but bits just keep falling off of it until I binned it, as it really wasn't compatable at all.  :(

Proper boro and frit is the only really safe option

Thanks everyone,  I thought that might be too convenient to work! :)
