I've been fusing some simple pendants in the kiln with sterling silver wire fused into the glass to make a hanging hoop. Unfortunately the silver has become discoloured due to the heat and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on making the silver look vaguely shiny again. (I would have used fine silver, but when I tried fusing that it went all brittle).

I'm doing a full fuse (816*C maximum) am I fusing the silver at too high a temperature?

Sterling will always do that I'm afraid, I use 1mm fine silver and that's fine, others also use nichrome wire, but i haven't tried that yet so can't comment

Try using some fine wet and dry paper in 600 grit which will take off the fire stain and give the silver a polishes finish

Hope this helps Smiley

You could try putting the whole thing in Goddards Silver Dip and leave for a few minutes. Wash in water after and then brush with a suede brush with brass bristles. I soldered some silver coated jump rings into a daisy shape yesterday, just to see if it worked. I'm thinking of doing some filigree in the future as I have soldering skills. 7 rings, one in the centre surrounded by six others, came up ok after dipping and brushing. I was happy to try this as they were home made jump rings and it didn't matter if they were spoilt. I also put some 1mm silver wire into a petal shape and soldered the bottom together. Dipped and brushed and that came out OK too. You never know till you try.
