My gas ran out this morning so I got a new one, connected it up and checked everything was okay. I made four beads and then the tank started to make a strange noise. Its hard to describe but it was a sort of pinging sound almost like if you knock on the side of a full tank. I turned off the torch and it made the noise a couple more times. I have no idea what is causing this and if it is safe.

Has anyone else had this happen? ???

My guess is that the metal of the tank is contracting slightly as some of the gas is released - the pressure inside is reduced and the whole thing cools down. Probably not a problem, but may be worth phoning the company who supplied it and asking their opinion?

How very odd. What size is the tank?
I have 2 suggestions: maybe the temperature that the tank was being stored at is very different to the temperature you have it in at your studio, so the tank is readjusting a bit. Or maybe there is something loose inside the tank - a bit of metal or plastic - that is floating on the liquid propane and knocking against the side.
I agree that the best thing is to ring the supplier! They may have come across this before. Do let us know.....

It's a 13 kg tank, it's the sizes I always use, its being stored in my garage where I work and I don't think the temperature would be different from its outdoor storage at the suppliers. They don't know what it could be either, my hubby is going to light the torch and see if it happens again. So far its a mystery.
