The colour of the month challenge is jointly sponsored by Off Mandrel (thank you Sean and Gillian!) and Frit Happens!

Each month the lucky winner, chosen by a random number selector, will receive a £20 gift voucher to spend on-line with Off Mandrel. The draw will take place at the start of **June** Last entries before midnight of the last day of May so make sure you get your entries in to be in with a chance to win the goodies!

A reminder that the entries should be new work.

So, the colour for the month for May 2012 is Valentine (this will be CiM 102). Come on let's see your creations!

Good luck!

I love this red, as yet I have not managed to burn it to brown  ;)

Ok then I'll start...
When I saw what the colour of the month was I thought "yuk". I tried this colour when it first came out and I wasn't a fan. The beads I made with it had that "livery" tinge to them and I just didn't like it.
But since this is a colour challenge, I vowed to give it a chance - hell, I might as well seeing as for some inexplicable reason I have half a kilo of the ruddy stuff. Anyway, this is what I've done with it so far and I have to admit that in the right light it's not so bad... The right light being outdoors and overcast which is lucky since it's exactly that here today. I had to dodge the rain to take this.
It's so long since I've posted anything, I hope it works...

that looks pretty good to me.  Do you not feel that as a red it's vibrant enough?

Kind of, but then I find Maraschino a bit OTT. Maybe I'm just impossible to please  ;D
It's weird really and I know I shouldn't say this, but I actually think the colour looks nicer in the photo than in reality - that doesn't seem to happen often. The colour does look vastly different depending on the light.

Good challenge choice though. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else does with it. I read somewhere that it's good when encased with Sangre so I might give that a whirl...

Valentine was possibly the only red I didn't have, but I've seen to that.
Will try it out over the weekend.

Lovely bead.   Have been thinking that I need a lighter red to try out...

This was made last week with valentine. I did encase it.

Made these hearts yesterday. My Valentine looks more dark and more opaque both in the rod and in the melting

Ooh, some lovely beads already. I only ever seem to use my valentine red rods to make hearts, so I decided to do something different with them for this. Fairly simple, but I like the colour!

Funny you say that about your valentine I had one rod that was labelled and was quite clearly a very different shade to the rest.  I had a play with it yesterday and will hopefully take pictures today and post later.  Not usually a fan of red but I've really enjoyed using it - I suppose that is the idea of a challenge!  ;D ;D ;D

Ok so there are two different looking Valentine!  The top set had the label on and the others didn't but were with it - once they've been melted they do look more similar so I'm guessing its just a slight difference in the batches and not me mixing up all my glass  ::) ::) ::)

Ohh - this is not a colour I'm drawn to as I do love my brights!! But Louise that bead looks really bright ...

I have a single rod of this so I'll have to give it a go as there are some lovely inspirational beads on here!

Its not exactly a bead but it is made with Valentine.
